tom, I'm running the same motor in my 8ight T. Although I won't say that you are overgeared at 14/44, you might be able to bring the esc temp down a bit by trying 14/46, or something similar with the 44T spur that you have for 4S. For 5S, I would say that the gearing is a bit high. For 5S, try 12/46 or even 13/46. It's still going to be crazy fast with more torque than you can handle.

As much as I've tried, I just don't see running 5S in a car or truck as practical. If you want to tame it down, try one of two things. Either go with a higher turn motor (I am now considering a lower kv motor for 5S), or just make the move to 4S, reserving 5S for when you just really want to go fast.
