Hi Pullstarter,
I initially run my savage with 12 cell 4200 intellect and the kit I used was Novak HV 4.5 (750watt), but the absorption of this motor was to big for this batteries and they damaged soon.

You can see a video of my savage with Novak 4.5 (but 4s lipo) here:

IMHO, Better of novak kit (and less expensive too!), I think you could consider a Mamba Max (+ubec) with a feigao 10 or 11XL, but you will not run very very fast.
Otherwise, if you take lipo cells, you could use my equal setup:
mamba max + UBEC
feigao 9XL
lipo 4s maxamps
47t plastic spure gear
16t pinion gear

With this setup, my savage run at max velocity of about 52 km/h (radar gun releved) with good torque.

Don't use a steel spur, the plastic one is better! With a steel spur you can break the pinion ore the motor shaft. (I did it too!)

Sorry me for my bad english.
Alex.

Thanks very much for the information its much appreciated, i was considering getting into lipo but the cost may be a little hard to take at the moment. Would the 9XL run ok on 2x 2s lipo packs you think? The 3s are a bit beyond my budget :(

Yes, I'm sure that if you use 2 x 2s lipo (4s) with feigao 9XL will work great, because I'm using this setup! :005:
If you want isane velocity, then you will have to use 5 or 6s, but at 4s you may be really satisfied!
