8XL E-Revo Gearing - 06.07.2007, 09:58 AM

Pretty much like the title says. On 12-14 cells or 4s lipo, what gearing do you guys use comfortably on an 8XL.

Thank you.

personally i would use the 16t pinion. You could probably go up to 18t and it would not overheat too much because it a bit more torque than the 7XL. but if i where you i would use a 16t pinion because it is right in the middle.

Gearing depends on a lot of factors: tire size, tranny type (emaxx or stock Revo) and internal gearing (for the various optional ratios available for the Revo tranny), whether the tranny is locked into a certain gear, diff ratio, etc.

You can plug in all your data into this calculator to achieve the speed you are looking for...

I am less looking for speed and more interested in effecient running. I am using an E-maxx tranny locked in 2nd with stock Revo diff gearing. I will try it with the 66t RR spur but will switch to the Ofna when the strobe slippers are available again. Tires will typically be 40 series bowtie with dish wheels or standard maxx mashers for bashing.

I ran my v1 mostly 15/51, and 16/51 for a bit more spd. ~11lbs rtr IIRC w/ heavy beadlocks/mashers.

V2.0 is 16.3:1 (in between the two above). So far I think it runs better. The esc is hotter, but the motor is cooler. ~140F/150F. The RCM motor mount makes a great heatsink tho, so maybe its just that.
