traxxas titian and mm? - 06.17.2007, 09:53 PM

I have a mm hooked up in my stampede and I had it hooked up to a fagio 540 6L. the motor works ok but I don't have spare cells or battery bars to make a 8 cell nimh pack, so I wanted to hook up a traxxas titian because they can handle 14.4 volts. I wired it up to be brushed W/reverse and hooked up the 12 cells. the car took off and wasn't to bad for about 15-20 seconds and then poof the motor started melting. I am wondering why it melted, and how I can run one of these successfully.

What are you running for gearing? I would have figured it would run longer than that. How old was the motor? My experience with titans is that they only last about a year no matter how you run them.

one more thing, Was it the 23 turn Emaxx version or the 12 turn rustler/stampede?

People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

I am running the 23 turn emaxx titian and they are old, but have very little use because my emaxx has a hacker b50 10xl in it. they are about 7 years old but have maybe 15-20 packs through it. I have it geared 22/51. thanks

How are you running a 51 tooth spur on a stampede? I didn't think they made one, unless you are running a strobe and Mod 1 gears. If thats the case, the mod 1 might not be smooth enough and the added resistence is reeking havoc on the motor. Thats my thoughts. It could be, if there was a 51 tooth spur in 48 pitch for stampede, geared waaaaaaaaaaay too high

the problem i see is that you got a 2.32 ratio on Pinion/spur and 2.72 in tranny, which comes to 6.32:1 total ratio. For stadium trucks you need a 12 to 14:1 ratio total to run proper, so it was my latter suggestion was what happened. Usually that ratio (the one you got now) is usually run in touring cars

do you think that a 17 tooth pinion would be better? or wiring the motor to the hv setup?
I run a fagieo 6l on 6 cells and I use 17/51 and it is cool as can be. I could even put a larger pinion on.
