Clutch Bell Adapter

Does anyone make an adapter to use nitro clutch bells on the electric motors? I would just buy a mod1 pinion except this is a two speed clutch bell that I have for an old pirate 10.

Not that I know of. You might be able to modify it, but will be toough as they are made of hardened steel most of the time. I would just get the appropriate pinion.

Unfortunately, there is no appropriate pinion. I think I can make it work with an airplane prop adapter. A little bit ugly, but it has worked in the past.

I know the early edition of Mikes hardened pinions where made this way; they used the gear from a clutchbell, pressed onto a carrier.

They where not tough enough to withstand the motor to both power and brake the spur.

If you have access to a lathe (this is what it will take), you could turn an adapter to fit into the recesses on the clutch bell and use some jb weld to fix it in there. I did something similar when I first started on brushless, but didn't use it for long, since my order came in faster than I thought it would.

I think I used aluminum bronze to make the part. It's easy to work with and resists abrasion pretty well.

Has anyone seen the Fine Design way of doing this. I know they sell them with the clutch bell already attached. Maybe they did a press on thing too.

I'm pretty sure they just JB Weld a pinion (part with out the teeth) in a clutch bell. I guess it works well...
