Controller for 4-pole motors -
07.20.2005, 12:18 PM
I have a Plettenberg BigMAXXimum and shulze 18.97 which i have yet to run but from what i have read i'm expecting the controller may go up in smoke.I've read there is an MGM controller on the way which may handle this motor.Do you know which model I would need to run 14-18 cells and when it might be available?
I have 2 LST projects on the go, one using the e-maxx single speed and one using the LST transmission. With the latter I am using mechanical brakes and reverse so might there be a non car specific controller that would handle the Plettenberg that i could use?
I'm contemplating ordering a 7xl and 9920 as well to run on 14 cells. As i live in the UK is there a way round the import charges?
BTW i'm very relieved to have found RC-monster and the people on this forum.
Thanks in advance for any help.:D

The MGM controller should handle the 4 pole motor no sweat, though it will be rated for 16 cells, I think. I can get the 7xl and warrior direct shipped from Germany to you and allow you to avoid the import charges.
Welcome to the forums, too!

Yeah, do like i did, sell your bigmaxx and 18.97 and get the 9920 and the 7 or 8 XL (the 8 XL can run on 20 cells as well)
If you like a blue can, get the wanderer 20 8XL (it is the feigao, only different bearing, blue in colour and it has got the plugs soldered on allready)
Have you seen this? I am not the biggest fan of schulze anymore.. (one of them was my own 18.97)

Feigao XL all the waaayyy! I just came back from a first test of my Revo with the Wanderer 7XL on 16 cells. Usually I run 14. WOW! I'm impressed. Had it geared for 40mph, and the motor stayed surprisingly cool. And, can you say torque?? (well, I can't, I say Drehmoment LOL)
I never had a Pletty, used to dream about them, but now I will stay 2 pole. I'm all about reliability, can't stand burning, expensive stuff;)

Thanks guys.
Yeah i'm considering selling the BigMAXX and shulze but i might give it a chance.I've also considered the wanderer 20 8xl with 20 or more GP2200s.Do you know how the run time of 20 GP2200s would compare with 16 GP3700s and what controller would be best.i guess the warrior would be working hard at 20 cells.
Dafni, is your Wanderer 7xl different from the fiego that Mike has listed then?I like the sound of your setup.if it's running cool it must be running efficient and i might get decent run times from 14 or 16 cells.plus i can charge 2 8-cell packs simultaneously with the gear i already have.

Yeah, one day I will try Lipos. For now, 14 cells is just right. 16 for the occasional thrill.
Gustav, the 7XL on 14 cells is awesome. The perfect match for my truck, somehow.
The Wanderers are still identical to the Nemesis'. Both are made at Feigao, but the Wanderers are made under BK's specification. Which only means better bearings at the moment. But BK will soon upgrade the magnets. Rene, can you say Teil-last-festigkeit?
Ah, yeah, and the can is blue:cool:
14 cells puts the 7XL right into it's effective range.

Yeah, you said it right in your earlier posts. It simple is the partial load. the segmented magnets are better in this, they get less hot.
I was thinking about the maxx, centerdiff converted with the 7XL on 14 cells.. With a rather tall gearing, but yet very light (compared to my savage that is...) (and again, all in the name of science...)

Yeah, sometimes you have to say it more than once.
Sounds good, Rene! One day we'll drag race.

Thanks Dafni and Serum and Mike.
I think i'll ask Mike to get me a blue canned 7xl and a warrior.
Do you have any suggestions for a starting point for gearing with the e-maxx transmission. The diff ratio is the same as a maxx and i use maxx sized tires.i was going to start with 15/51.what do you think? Oh yeah and it's g-maxx single speed.

Strobe, eh?
15/51 sounds good. I run the equivalent to 14/51, and the temps are amazing!
Mike can get you the BK motors, even directly shipped from germany to your place.

Yeah strobe. That reminds me,i need to find out how many turns out to run the strobe.I'm using the high temp pads and sprong.
Anyway that's decision made.7xl and 9920 on 14 cells(or maybe 16)I'd better get on to Mike before i start changing my mind again.
Thanks again for your help.

...if you have the opportunity....!? Rene, you just gave me an idea! 3 times 6 is 18! Never thought of straping 3 basher packs on the Revo. I only have 7 and 2 quality packs. Geez Rene, you will have to come and hold my hand.
