to BEC or not to BEC - 08.29.2007, 04:14 PM

I just purchased an MGM 16024 from mike, I'm
going to run 5 cell Flightpower, with a neu
1515/2y, do I need to disconect the bec and run a separate ubec?

the 16024 is an opto esc, which means if doesn't have a BEC. so you need a UBEC, But don't remove the red wire. I have an older model and i do not removr the red wire

If it has a built-in switching BEC, then there is no need to get an external one as they are the same thing.

A linear BEC (like in the Quark, MM, etc) should be disabled for any voltage around and above 8v (2s lipo or 7 NiMH cells).

Its the 24 cell one, it doesn't have a BEC

Yes you will need BEC (not one in that ESC). Get one of the dimension engineering units, prices aren't bad and they are good to 8s just as the controller is.
