Continuation of my old thread in the temp forum.

Heres is a link back to my original post on this truck.

Just had a little update. I told a couple people that I would Eagletree a run with the 4s1p A123 packs and post the results to see how they really perform. Here it is.

There is obviously some serious voltage drop running these cells in 1p configuration, (13.2v down to 9.3v)but I expected that and thats why I'm running 4s instead of 3s. You can also see that its peaking as high as 88 amps. Thats running these cells at over 38c. At this load the pack does get warm , but I've never temped the pack over 110F and even with the voltage drop they still do a really nice job of providing all the punch the truck can handle.

One thing I must admit I was WAY wrong on was the runtime. I had estimated 12 minutes of runtime on a pack. Well... That is obviously WRONG. Its more like only 5-6 minutes. But this is about the most extreme conditions that I could possible run. Very very tall gearing, very high traction surface and tires, hard full throttle acceleration, just about the time it hits full speed hard braking to power slide through the 180 degree turn and back to full throttle again. Over and over. I would expect that on a dirt track with less traction and geared down for more reasonable track speeds that that runtime would go up significantly.

I'll see if I can do a little "reconfiguring and try running in 3s2p next week and do some comparison. I expect that I will get allot more run time and allot less voltage drop, but I'm wondering how much the lower starting voltage and the extra weight will effect the performance. I'll post up the data when I get a chance to run it.

What do you guys think? Will I be better off with the 3s2p? The run time doesn't really bother me. Its plenty long, and I have enough packs to keep cycling through charging them as I run and last a good long while.

EDIT: I forgot... Specs are: Lightning Stadium 10, Quark 80B, Lehner 1930/6, 4s1p A123, Gearing 17/54 on 3.5" tires. Top speed???(fast enough to easily walk away from the nitro 1/8 buggies on the straights) Geared for a theoretical 47MPH

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

Silent...But Deadly
