Castle Mamba MAX 5700 1/10 Motor prombles? -
09.03.2007, 01:03 PM
Hello,
Has any body had any problems with the mamaba max 1/10 system with the 5700 motor? I have
I have a stampede
I installed the mamba max system,
1st battery used a 8.4 batt in it.. Worked great
2nd battery I used a 9.6v batt.. worked great
3rd battery I used was 11.1 5kmah max amp lipo.. worked great for about 10min and then locked the brushless up..?
Sent it back to castle and they gave me a new one, @ N\C (great service too)
I installed the new one, I used the pattern again with the battery's 8.4 then 9.6 then 11.1, when i used the 11.1 for about 15minutes the truck stopped.. The motor is getting power but does not have enough to move, it just bucks? The new brushlees motor is only about 1 hour old?
Do I have to get a fan for the motor or heat sink? I'm I doing something wrong? Will using the brake to much heat up the brushless?
I'm new to brushless
Thanks
Any help or suggestions is appreciated
Has any body else had the same problem?

What are your temps like on 3S lipo?
Is the motor extremely hot? Is the ESC and/or battery pack extremely hot?

I do not have anything to check the temperature, but by hand the ESC is not hot, the battery is warm, and the motor is hot.
What kind of tool can I use to check the temperature?

Well, it sounds like you are undergeared...
What gearing are you running?

When i called castle about the 1st motor problem, they said I would have to change the gearing to 14/90

What is you timing set on and on what surface are you riding on? What tires are you using? Could also be that you have some binding in your driveline somewhere. 14/90 is a good gearing with that motor on 3s.
I found out that the stock transmission case use to flex, causing me some broking spurs. Upgraded to the FLM tranny case and never had a issue after that.

Is the system still working now or is it dead? Maybe you just hit the voltage cutoff after 15 min.
Next time you run... and the motor is "hot".... try a finger/spit/water test. See how long you can hold your finger on it. or if it's really hot... if a drop of water sizzles :)
If the esc temp is a lot less than the motor, then you can try gearing higher. (bigger pinion)

Do you wheels spin freely when the motor is not connected? You might of missed something(washer) while putting the steel idler in.
