Thoughts on an e revo - 09.07.2007, 09:19 PM

Sometime soon i will be starting an e revo build. im new to the fourms. i plan to run the mm/8xl using the stock tranny. The batts will be A123 cells pulled from a DeWalt 36V tool battery. I have a few questions, one, could i run the whole system using only one larger battery pack instead of two smaller ones? And will this charger work for the A123 batteries?

5s A123's should be fine, but might have trouble voltage-wise since some seem to be sensitive to over-volting. 4s A123s or lipos should be fine though. An 8XL can pull a decent amount of current so don't gear too aggressively. If shooting for speeds over ~35mph, I'd get a different ESC to handle the current better.

Yes, you can run any battery combo (within ESC specs) that will physically fit either single or dual.

To properly charge A123 cells, you should get a charger specifically made to charge them. That charger is for regular lipos only.

on the previous page, this one, the caption under the charger says "AC/DC version supports A123 cells" i guess that caption is incorrect... and if i can find room in my buget i may try this speed control. and do i need this 8xl or this 8xl? and correct me if I'm wrong but a 5s pack consists of five cells right?
