LST vs LST2/Aftershock???? - 09.23.2007, 08:36 PM

Ii just picked up a LST roller on Ebay. I thought it was a LST2 but oh well, i should have read it better. Was thinking of putting a e-tranny in there and you know the rest.

Anyways, what are the differences between the LST and LST2/Aftershock?

lst and aftershock are similar lst2 seems to have a lot of differences. The 2 speed setup on the aftershock doesn't seem to work until it is upgraded to the lst2 stuff. The A arms of the aftershock break if you look at them wrong. And that's the main issues I can think of. Since you won't be needing the tranny your biggest issue will be the A arms. The easy fix for those is a set of rpm arms or an lst2 chop shop.

Thanks MTBikerTim, I was thinking the same thing. I'll tinker with the setup till something breaks. I found another good article on the teamlosi website if anyone else is interested.

I have an LST converted to and LST2. To be honest it is worth it to upgrade, I was bending cvds with a wimpy nitro motor. But the LST did last me a good 2 years before it was ready for upgrading.

I wonder how an HV would handle the LST. I've never had any problems with them before. and the HV now has lipo cutoff built into the programming.

I am in the process of converting an Aftershock at the moment. I will be using the emaxx tranny with a custom mount and battery tray. I have settled on using either a 9xl or a KB 45mm 8xl. Both have around a 1800kv rating so I will be running 5s lipo. A quark 125 will be hadling the esc duty, as it is the only higher amp esc I have that can handle 5s. I will gear for about 38mph in second gear, and retain 1st as it will be more bash-friendly in some of my play areas. I doubt that the current HV wil handle this truck, gearing will have to be low to make up for the lack of torque. With the nitro gear removed the truck is not too heavy, but add all of the brushless stuff and batteries and it get heavy fast.

Hi guys, I have 2 LST2's with E-Maxx tranny's. One has a 9Xl / MM on 4s,set up for racing on a small tight track and the other one has an 8XL / Quark 125 on 4s both have single speed (2nd gear only) conversions, with good traction both will wheely, but the 8XL violently flips over. I find 1st gear pretty unusable.

Got any pics? I would love to see your setup. I have a peice of carbon fiber I'm going to use to make a completely new upper plate. I can use the old LST plate as the template and I have a spare emaxx chassis to use as the template for the tranny mounting.

Also curious what gearing you are using with your 9XL setup. I have a 9XL/MM 4S setup in my Emaxx and it seems pretty slow to me. (But I am only 2WD, would that make a huge difference?) It's got the gorillamaxx single speed tranny and is 18/66. I'm going to try 22/66 this weekend and see what happens. LMK thanks.

You can always run the stock LST2 tranny as well. Here is some video of mine almost a year ago when I first put it together. Since then I have gone through all kinds of mods and different combinations. 5S was fun but a little too risky with the Mamba Max. I finally settled in on a Neu 1515 1Y and 4S lipos. I'm running second gear only.

That's exactly what I did, except with fiberglass since it's half the price at just 5% or such more weight. It's really worth it, I find it totally awesome.

I don't really have any pics of either of the trucks in their current configurations, but here are a couple of pics of the chassis and skid plates. I also used .125" spacer blocks under the tranny and milled about .045-.050" out of the skid plate for tranny clearance.

Hey Getter Robo, that's sweet, I thought about fiberglass but i didn't now if it would hold up as well as the 6061-T6. I'm sure it's a lot lighter.
