Well the thing with fans is that for a given thrust figure, the fan is required to rotate at a finite speed. At a given speed, the fan requires a finite amount of power to maintain that speed. If I were to use a smaller motor it would still use the same amount of power and run at the same speed to produce the same amount of thrust as a larger motor. That larger motor, however, would run much cooler. If the smaller motor were made to run at higher speed it would create more thrust but also require much more power. One of these days I'll get a wattmeter and see how much power it's actually taking to make this thing go.
