7xl,9l or 10l final verdict

I have been cruising this forum for awhile now and I am truly impressed by the service and information Mike and the others provide to people.

Due to this I have decided to make my first brushless purchase here.

I plan on getting the warrior 9920 esc, but I am confused on which feigao motor to purchase.

I was hoping any and everyone with knowledge could post to this thread the differences between the 7xl, 9l, and 10l motors.

I know this will be helpful to me and other first time brushless buyers so we can look at one thread to see differences as these motors are difficult to choose between.

Hi Ulch! Welcome to this forum, the purpose is to provide you the answers you are looking for, so in order to do so, here is my answer to your questions;

If you are planning on running 14 cells mostly, you will find the most power and bang for the buck in the 7XL.

The 10L however will get you a bit more runtime, and the 9L will be really fast, but runtime has to suffer. The motor will get hotter as well, as with the 7XL. the 7XL is easy on the controller, and can handle the 14 cells with ease.

From my experience, once you have got a 14 and a 16 pack of batteries, you more enjoy running the 16 than the 14.. I guess the same goes for the 12 and the 14..

Although; running 12, also gives you the ability to run the XL3100, nothing but good news on this motor as well!

the 9L is a nice in between, but it will run a bit hotter than the 7XL (no worries though)

All of the mentioned motors will likely perform alike, if geared suited. They are all able to draw the max. available power from the batteries... The 7XL has got the largest magnet, which results in lots of torque.

Overall, on 14 cells, the 7XL gets my vote.

For 12 cells the 9L gets my vote. and if you prefer runtime vs speed, get the 10L on 12 cells. But trust me.. Once you got in touch with the 14 cells and the 7XL, you will love it's smoothness, power and cool temps. You also have got the ability to run it on 16 or even 18 cells, with the proper gearing and a fan on your 9920

I would also suggest the 7XL, mainly because of all the reason's that Serum mentioned. But it doesn't matter how powerful our brushless systems are, after a while we all want that little bit more. With the 9L and 10L you don't have much room for expansion in the future when you may want power. The 7XL can be run upto 16 or even 18cells (if your mad...), and will still perform very well on 12-14cells. Whilst the 9L and 10L might be more in their optimum range at 12-14 cells than the 7XL, they cannot be run with 16-18cells, should you want more power (and I bet you will eventually, ;) )

Right now I have only 12 cell packs but i am wanting to upgrade to 14. I would rather buy the brushless system and then upgrade batteries later.

I am leaning towards the 7xl I think.
But will it be ok with 12 cells. I ve read other threads and understand that effeciency is important with brushless. Do u know of anyone runnng the 7xl on 12 cells.

Also is there a such thing as to much torque? For example will i be able to keep it on the ground or off its lid. I know this depends on traction but I was just wondering if the 9l would be better cause it had a little less torque and would stay down more.

What type of top speed and runtime will I get with the 7xl on 12 cells with standard gearing.

Also when will the 9920 be back in stock.?

With both motors, you would be fine, it is all a matter of fingercontrol..

I would guess mid thirties on 12 cells and about 40 on 14 cells. But you will need to gear up a bit from stock to make use of the extra torque (this will help prevent wheelie's). You will also learn that first gear is a waste of time.

If those speeds seem a bit dissapointing, bear in mind that if/when you do decide to up the cell count to 16 or 18, the 7XL has the potential to touch 50 mph.

Can you please for once give an estimate run time, lol.

I've being intrested in brushless for ages but keep breaking things to be unable to afford it.

I will be running 14 cells and most definatly 16 in the future and want to do mid' 40s and have decent runtime, say around 8-10minutes. I was looking at the XL2800 but the 7XL seems like a better choice?

With the 7xl/9920 how much runtime can i expect to gain over stock with 12 cells.

OK, I'm confused. I thought the 9L runs best on 14 cells? I thought i read a while back that the 9L on 14 cells, geared correctly, can get to 50 MPH in the emaxx? You guys are talking about the emaxx, right?
