Nice Setup and smart way to protect your ESC.

Glad to see i'm not the only one driving a brushless truck/truggy during winter season. If you don't mind this is how i protected my electric components. I even made some basic video clips on snow and ice: clip1, clip2, clip3. And here is an eagletree graph of one of my runs on snow.


Brushless 1:5 custom 4wd Baja based on 1:8 truggy chassie
Jazz 55-10-32, Neu 1515/2Y (1100kv), 9s2p A123 (27v), up to 3.1KW
Latest video with eagletree Data inserts: Run on asphalt

Are those 18650 cells? If so, I've tried that setup before. For low amperage use, where cell arrangement can afford 5 amps or less per cell, it seemed to work pretty good. I didn't get much cycle life out of them though.

Yes ... Sony 18650 VT (Konion 1100). They are good up to 25A, don't need any balancer and have a better cycle life than lipos. I use them in a 8s2p config and can pull up to 1150 Watt out of them. This is perfect for snow driving where you won't need those high Amps to get good acceleration. On high grip surfaces they are no match to my 10s1p A123 setup which is able to provide up to 2200 Watt.

This is a detailed pic of the battery (4s4p config).

Where can I get some 18650 cells like this?


I wouldn't mind putting together a few packs of my own.
