Have steering but no throttle after 30feet? - 12.21.2007, 10:31 PM

Hi guys,

I recently built a E-Revo, ditching all the nitro components. All the stuff from the nitro setup worked before I took it off. Now the electric version works but only until about 30ft or so. It's not the crystals or antennae since the steering will work no matter how far away I am. Here's my setup:

Mamba Max ESC - mounted by velcro
Starluck RC UBEC
Feigao 9XL
RCM heatsink and motor mount
94358 steering servo
5.5 connectors on the motor
4s Hyperion 4350mah LiPo
Deans connectors for the batt
enclosed Rx and BEC in Tekno Rx box
deanodized chassis (interference?)
Rx is mounted by velcro (stays put)

The antennae has been shortened but it hasn't had any effect on range in the past. I'm really stumped about this, I can't even get to full speed before I get out of range. The guy who had this setup before me said he used a Spektrum system, so maybe I just need to upgrade? Any ideas?

Move the ubec and see if that helps. I have had similar problems and moving the ubec seems to help with glitching and range issues. Or buy a cc bec, they seem to be very clean concerning unwanted noise output. I f you have a rec pack try that out and see if it cures the problem. Good luck!

Thanks I'll do that. I left all my Rx packs back home but maybe I'll pick up a cheap one or try one at the LHS.

It's the BEC. Whatever brand is from Starluck has interference problems. Either that, or my Rx can't hold the charge from the UBEC. I'm gonna go with the Castle BEC. Is that a good BEC to use?

The cc bec is the best I have tried. It is not noisy/dirty and the adjustable voltage is killer. I run all of my servos on 6.5v and it has no trouble keeping up. You do need the castle link interface to change the voltage, another 20 bucks or so, but well worth it!
