Batteries for new E-Maxx -
12.22.2007, 11:14 PM
Well, I've been looking for a snow-ready basher for when I go to Mammoth to Ski (we go tons of times a year) and this truck seems like its gonna be it.
I was planning on using a pair of 2S lipo's in it, but the ones I have are the 30C FlightPower 4500's, which are coincidentally too long to fit in the molded battery trays, based on measurements from people who have the truck. Most agree that the tray is about 163mm long, while the FP's are 166mm long according to Tower, and my own measurements show between 165-166.
I could Dremel the chassis to make somes pace, but I'd rather not jeopardize its structural integrity and rigidity.
Anyway, I was looking for some high capacity packs which would fit. I also needed something that would be readily water resistant to match the other components of the truck (so I can run it in the snow, and other wet areas as they appear).
I remembered the Neu 2S Hard-cased ones, and from what I can tell by the pictures, a couple dabs of silicon where the wires exit should make them all but water ready. I will probably take a small balloon or piece or saran wrap over the balancing tap as well.
The best thing is that, from what I hear, these packs are amazing, so I will have no problem using them in my G2R without any drop in performance compared to my 30C FP packs.
What do you guys think? Plus, at $95 a pack they are a excellent price.

Bp, you must have a deep wallet if you would rather spend 200 on new lipos over a little bit of dremeling! Do you really think a few mm will weaken the chasis that much?
But yeah, those NEU packs look nice, some silicon in the holes, and it should be awesome! If its like my TrackPower's, then they will be good in the snow

3mm is nothing I would just file a bit and make it fit, why downgrade from 30c

Well, if you look at the design of the chassis, the two things I would be dremeling away are what seem pretty important in the overall rigidity of the chassis.
Oh well...I'll get the truck first and then figure out what I'll do...
BlackedOut, its not that I have a deep wallet, but I have been keeping some money off to the side as I was going to pick up a second set of batteries for my G2R. I have two packs for my CRT, and I want two sets for my G2R. So, I was just gonna get these Neu's since they would work in both trucks. However, if I can get my 30C's to work in the new E, I'd rather use those.

Ohh, yeah that makes sense..
Personally, id go for another set of flight power's, and just dremel/file the chassis, and stay with the flight power, then there the same size, so you dont need any changing when you go through packs that you have all adjusted for one pack....

If you're willing to pay for the Neu batteries, I say go for them. But its always nice to save some money, so I'd try to dremel the chassis a bit first. The worst thing that will happen is the chassis will be weakened too much, so you'll have to spend $10 on a new one.
BTW - When are you going to Mammoth? I also go there very often.... about 5 times per year (including Summer), sometimes even more. But I waterproofed my E-Revo, so it should ready to go. I'm leaving to go there tomorrow. When are you going? PM me, and we can talk.
