ya i knew it would reduce weight and all but are the outrunners just as fast as lets say a neu? can you buy expensive outrunners?

The speed depends of the motor kv, voltaje used and the final ratio.

The motors used for direct drive are low kv because the gear ratio is lowered when the pinion, spur and tranny are removed. So you need less motor turns to get the same wheels turns than with the classic setup.

IMO a good motor should be efficient and durable , and is very important to choose the correct model for each application (KV, weight, rotor lenght and diameter, number of poles, A, ..).

BTW Neu are awesome motors but expensive, like the Plettenbergs.I think both are 6 polers (Bigmaxximum sure is) and more efficients than 2 polers, but requires much more work from the ESC. The MT Dragon is only US$35 and I'm not sure about the durability because the quality of the materials.
