It must be metric, kind of like a newton is supposed to be the weight of a std size apple.

I am guessing that at least 100 test subjects would have to ingest a similar quantity of food, and the results would be weighed and sized and an average of the findings would indicated the approximate weight and size of a "crapload".

Now, whether he meant a crapload wieght or size is beyond me.
