connectors, which? - 01.18.2008, 01:40 PM

I am headed to my LHS after work today to buy some misc. items for my heli and a few things for the revo project. I have ordered my 1515 1y and will be coupling it to an mgm 16018 that I do not own yet. What is the best method of this connection?

Do the mgm's come with connectors that I will want to match for the motor or do I need to get a full set. If full set 4mm, 5mm?

Thanks.

The most popular connector is the 5.5mm. I personally prefer direct soldering, though.

take the female of a short 4mm plug, and solder one end to the motor, the other to the controller. Don't forget to put shrink tube around one end before hooking them up..

I'm direct soldered on my mm5700 in the rusty. Maybe I'll just go that route then. I'll look at the 4mm's they have at the lhs and decide. thanks guys.

Castle just came out with a set of connectors - I'm going to convert all mine to their 5.5mm size..

If direct soldering the motor leads, make sure the motor spins in the right direction first.

yeah, do an electrical tape twisted ends mock up 1st. I just saw the new castle connectors. I'll see if lhs has them, they do carry castle product.

I have a bunch of wires terminated in alligator-clips for my elec projects, so I use those to test...

I don't have that my method gets the job done, just not as nicely. I picked up some 4mm Kavan connectors. They look very solid and have red plastic sleeves instead of shrink wrap.

I was using the 5.5 connectors, but now I'm soldering the new 6mm ones, they are shorter and seems to handle very good the power.

they can get loose though; they are not flexible (the plug itself tends to get loose after a while) Easy fix though. but you don't want it to happen in a race.

I have some of the castle connectors in hand. They are so rock solid of a connection, I can't see direct soldering giving much advantage over the 5.5 or 6.5mm connectors. The 4mm are dang tight enough, nothing like the average 4mm bullet.

The less resistance the better, differences might be tight, but for racing you don't want your no1 position to depend on a few plugs that only serve your convenience. They can get loose, since they don't use a spring.

I agree with this whole heartedly. I am not a racer though, while out bashing if it come apart, put it back together and keep going!
