Anyways, if you use a mechanical brake, you'll have to use a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiggg pinion to avoid the motor can to hit the brake pads.
For me, it's not a good idea to use the mechanical brake with this kind of mount.
The best way to use mechanical brake is to use the RCM revo motor mount on truggy or buggy setup. Work very well for me!!
I'm betting its just the holes are off placement on the motor mount. They look lower than the stock hole locations. It happens. I'd contact Mike and include the pictures you just posted in your email. He will tell you whats up for sure. It sounds like the rest of us are just guessing here.

The smallest pinion I am able to run with the mechanical brakes on a Xray XB8 is a 16T before the brake diskhits the motor can. You just need to select a low enough kv motor that the 16T or larger is the "right" size pinion.
