nimh or lipo or other? - 01.31.2008, 06:35 PM

alright so i have been doing my research and i have many questions, so far you guys have been great. I am doing a flm savage conversions. i was going to either run a 4s lipo set up or maybe 14.4v nimh? Is there something wrong with nimh cells and the load they can put out. What about those a123 cells(is believe that is spelled wrong) What are those cells made of. If someone could provide a link with some reading material that would be great.

If any other help, esc and motor thoughts? thinking of ferigo xl? and that mgm esc that cost about 135?

Thannks for all the help

For BL I would recommend lipo (lithium polymer) or A123 (Lithium ion), but the lipo cells will most likey fit better than the funky sized A123 cells, and you need to run them in a 2p configuration to prevent the voltage from drooping baddly under load.

Reading material

For 4s lipo, I would suggest either the 8XL or 9XL in a heaver savage- 8 for speed, 9 for runtime. As for escs, well, depends what flavour you like really, but the MGM 120-18 is a safe bet; you ideally want to have some headroom in the voltage department so that the esc can absorb voltage spikes and such without going thermonuclear on you. $180 is a great price for a 6s 120 amp esc, or you can try the MM esc as that will do 4s and 100amps, but ideally needs a few mods like an extra capacitor and external UBEC.

I personal like the a123's if you can put a 6s2p pack into that beast, your would be set. Long run times, and super fast charge time. I have a e-maxx that I run 6s1p A123's.
My charge time is 8-10 min and the run time is 12-15 min.

For bashing there is no other choice IMHO. If you are racing then Lipo's all the way.

sucideneil, if i ran two 1500 mah packs in 2p, wouldn't that be the same as running one 3000 mah pack?
