Top Mount instead of Side Mount? -

Mike:
Why don't you make a motor mount that places the motor on top of the spur instead of the off to the side so the weight is balanced in the center and we can run dual packs on the side better all around balance of the car?
It's probably down to what you prefer really. The motor mounted high would raise the CG. Also some people prefer to run single packs. If that's what you want (it's not a bad idea some cars have this setup already) Mike can probably make you something. I think there are a few conversions on the forum which have that setup as well.
Yeah, my Ofna Hyper8 buggy uses this arrangement (see Conversions link in sig). It does help balance the weight, but room is at a premium in buggies and with dual packs, not much room is left to mount the other stuff unless you get creative. The side mounts are probably easier to make (and therefore cheaper). Also, like MTBikerTim said, it raises the CG.
I made my own mount for my S3 over the dif and flex is a big issue. The S3 had a channel down the center so I added a convex rubber pad under the end of the motor to absorb some of the impact, but the pinion still showed wear. I tried to talk Mike into making me a mount for a Team Magic buggy and after he desribed how much of a pain and the downfalls, I went with his RC8 mount.
the pic was taken with a cel so not the best. I had 2 of these buggies, and the nitro I used the extended chassis. the stiffness of the S3 chassis with the channel and the centre line drivetrain made this my option and it balanced good. I sold/traded them to a buddy to get another brushless buggy in the group to race and started the next one. yes it has pink sorta straps, so is that ugly carbon though so it matched LOL
and with the use of lipo-cells there is no need for two batteries. On battery will do; and sine there needs to be some balance in the truck, the motor on one side and the battery/servo on the other gives quite a good balance!
I made a mount for my Thunder Tiger ST-1 Pro with the motor over the center diff. I didn't really want 5s2p 8000mahs on one side, too much weight and I don't think a pack that big is well protected by the body. I dented the top of the 3s pack in a crash, don't know how bad it would have been if I had a tall battery there.
