question about True RC lipos - 02.08.2008, 04:12 PM

I was wondering if they are worth it? Almost everybody at the traxxas forum talks down about them...but can bl systems really pull more amps than they can supply? (I know they give less amps than max amps). If bl systems cant pull more amps that a true RC lipo gives I should be fine right? (aside from the purple shrink wrap lol)

Im asking because if Max amps is the only way to go, I dont think I'll ever go lipo but if the True RC lipos are fine I should be able to go lipo this year! (in both my rustler and E-Revo)

What are you planning to run them in? with what motor esc setup?

I have been running the TrueRC 8000mah 5s setup in a revo and savage for along time with no issues at all. They are a great setup. My opinion is as long as the lipos are capable of 80A continuous in a MT they should be fine. I would not run the smaller 5000mah packs in this setup though they are only good for 50A cont.

What vehicle/motor/esc and what pack size are you considering.

Generally, you will just need to run a higher capacity pack to get the amp output up high enough. For Example: If a 4000mah 20C pack is good enough for your application then a 8000mah 10C pack is good enough as well. You just need to make sure you can fit it.

Another thing to consider.... I actually believe the TrueRC packs to be under rated and they are more capable than the lable represents.

On the flip side... The MaxAmps appear to be somewhat over rated vs what the label represents.

This is my opinion based on what I have seen from others that have posted actual run data using these different packs here and on other forums.

I plan to use them in my rusty (will have a mamba) and my E-Revo which will either have a Feiago 7XL or 8XL.

What size lipo? (mah?)

2s or 3s?

What KV motor. The 7700 will be harder on the lipos than the 4600.

I was running a rusty on 3s lipos capable of about 60A constant and they were fine. I wasnt running a mamba though. It was a Feigao 9L geared for around 50mph. The higher KV motor might be a little harder on the batterys than my setup.

If you can swing a 2s or 3s 8000mah TrueRC pack I think you will be happy with it and the performance. Make sure you get a balancer or a balancing charger and balance the pack while you charge it.

the mamba will be a 5700 and I will probably get 2 cell 6000 or 2 cell 8000 and 3 cell 5000 or 8000 I still dont know how many of each, but those are the sizes I'm looking at. :)

I'd look at the 8000 packs. The 5000mah packs at only 10C might not be quite enough IMO. The 8000 would be stellar.

with all respect; the truerc packs seem to hold their voltage as good as the maxamps packs under load; therefore a much better bang for the buck.

If used in 2P, there is nothing to worry about. A 8000mAh 14.8V pack of them kicks ass, and is able to put down 2800 watts. (this is with their old cells, their new cells seem to be even better)

having run both, I have come to the same conclusion. now if I want something thats a good bang for buck I will get more truerc packs, if I want top of the line I will get packs made with enerland cells.
