Is this Lipo ok? - 02.14.2008, 04:52 PM

My lipo kind of puffed up a bit. Do you think it is ok?

Just kidding of course. I was running this 4s 8000mah lipo in my E-Revo and some how my system pulled in too many amps for this particular battery to handle (rated for 15C, which is low for this size truck), big jump, something stuck in the drivetrain, defective battery/cell, too heavy a vehicle, etc. The truck stopped because one of the leads un-soldered. After taking a look I knew the battery was toast, but at that point it was not puffed. I left it in a fire-proof container for a few days and nothing happened. Then about a week later I pulled it out of the lipo bunker and it was puffed big time. I drained it to zero volts and dropped it off at a recycling center for disposal. Just another example of showing the proper respect for lipo batteries. When damaged they can become very unstable and should be handled with care.

8000mAh / 15c is 120amps constant. It should have been just fine in a Revo.
Shame it blew like that. Good job taking proper precautions and using safe disposal methods.

Store all my lipo and A123 in mini fire proof safe's. I figure if the can keep fire out I hope they keep it in...

Charge always in a lipo sack...

I bury my bad Li-Po's in the backyard, the recycling center is too far of a drive and it's expensive.

I did stay in a Holiday Inn lastnight though.
