Duratrax Axis conversion - 02.19.2008, 10:08 PM

So, I wandered into a local pawn shop today and found an 1/8th scale buggy roller. The guy didn't know anything about it, and I ended up buying it for $30 because I figured I could eBay it for more if it didn't turn out to be "convertable" to a higher power.

Research led me to see that it's a Duratrax Axis. It doesn't appear that there's much out there for this particular vehicle, but I'm tempted to convert it just because it was so cheap, and I've already got an MM/9XL combo and servos lying around.

So, do any of you know much about this thing? Would it be worth my time converting it, or should I just ditch it and invest my time/$$ elsewhere?

Thoughts?

Oh, side note, I also bought a mini-T roller with tons of upgrades for $30. Eh, why not, right?

Sounds like a pair of great deals. You may have to make a motor mount for the axis, if i remember correctly the axis was the buggy made before the raze. You might try tower hobbies and see if any parts are compatible.

Tower does have a decent amount of parts for it. It does look like the buggy before the Raze.

I've read a couple of posts on here that basically laughed at the Raze, so I don't want to waste time/money on this one if it's potentially even worse.

I'm hoping someone can tell me whether or not it's worth bothering with.

The mini t will be great if the buggy isn't. I was racing my mini t against 1/10th tourers and it was doing OK. By OK I mean they were beating me but not by as much as I expected and I could overtake them down the straight. I was actually beating 2 of them but one I think must have been a stock can and the other was brushless and driven by my friend who needs more practice staying on the track.

Any other thoughts? Should I just trash the idea?
