CRT.5 wheels and tyres. - 02.26.2008, 05:11 AM

Howdy, I've got an ext crt.5 chassis in the mail and have been shopping for wheels/tyres.

I've noticed a lot of you use traxxas nitro rears all round. Ive got some of them, and tried them out. First I found that the bore on the traxxas wheels is a fair bit bigger than the crt.5 which I'm not really fond of, and the rears from my nitro evader st (same as XX-T rears) seem to be a much better fit around the axle, and also give it a slightly wider stance - mounting the wheels straight onto the pin.

When I mount 2.2 truck tyres on it they look funny - like theyre too tall and thin for this little car, so I'm pretty keen to get some of traxxas 2.8s or proline 30 series on it (slightly smaller OD but wider) which I think should look pretty trick. Hopefully they bring out some different tyres soon - at least some M2 compound so they last a bit longer. I've already said that the traxxas bore seems a little too big, so can someone tell me if the XXX-T wheels are the same mounting specs as the XX-T? Then I could go the 30 series route.

And lastly :P is there anywhere to buy the pro line 30 series mounts separately? I'm guessing I'll only need 2 sets of the rear mounts, and everyone seems to sell a set of 4 - the fronts they give you would be useless to me...

Cheers... sorry 'bout the long post, but for some reason I thought my train of thought was important if you see anything wrong in there let me know so I can think some more! :P

edit: Oops, just remembered you said traxxas and not 30 series ...

Oh well, can anyone else clear this up?:
So am I right in thinking that I'd need an extra set of prolines 'all-purpose wheel adaptors?' (like these) for an extra two rear adaptors...

Or are they just all the same? I notice in that tower link that it says its an upgrade for the nitro as well as electric traxxas vehicles.. this I can't really make sense of.

XXX-T rears do not have enough offset for crt.5, however, the AE T4 rears work great on the crt.5. The AE wheels do require a slightly short pin than the stock crt.5 pints. I just ground down the crt.5 pins about 1mm shorter.

From what I've seen in pictures the AE T4 rims still do not have as much offset as the Traxxas rears. You mentioned that the bore of the Traxxas rears was larger than the crt.5 axle. I thought the Traxxas rims used hex adapters? Won't the crt.5 hexes fit the Traxxas rims?

Yeah they will, I just meant the hole the axle goes through. I guess if its on a hex it shouldn't matter too much.

Nitro rears = electric fronts = good

The nitro fronts have bearings in the rims (I think) and the electric rears the offset is too narrow.
