I do believe that those stock shoulder screws for the steering linkage are the same screws used on the shock mounts. I just use titanium screws with aluminum tubing for collars. For the pinion gear blue loctite will help plus a flat spot on the shaft will lock it in better. I also place heatshrink over the pinion/set-screw to keep it from comming out all the way in the event that it does come lose. You are going through what most of us experience with an RTR out of the box vehicle. It will keep on breaking parts until you take teh plunge and bulletproof your truck using mostly metal hopup parts. One of the strongest and cheapest versions for making this transition is the FLM gear sold here on RC Monster.
