revo with phoenix 60 - 03.30.2008, 09:25 PM

how would the phoenix 60 do in a revo with 3 and 4s lipo and a mega ACn22/30/1 motor? I am running 2 speed no reverse and mechanical brakes. also running close ratio probably on a 18/38 or 16/36 gearing once it all comes together with a good esc.

Not a good idea, they have a low torque start up to prevent damage to fragile aeroplane gearboxes, so you encounter all the problems you would with any air esc (eg the sentilon hv). Great for high speed runs, but thats about it..

I asked castle about using a phoenix in a revo a while ago and they also informed me that air esc's use a completely different startup algorithm than for a car, and have seen many-a burnt out esc's as a result. Great for high speed runs, but thats about it.

If you still want to do it, the 60A limit is way too low for a 3 or 4s setup, go with the 125 or 180.

That's odd. I contacted Castle about using the HV-110 in my GTP and they said it should be fine. The HV-110 has 108 FETs total, and each one is rated 60v/12A/0.010 Ohms. If 18 are on at any one time on each motor phase (actually, 36, but 18 are used for the + and 18 for the -), that's 216A! Pulse rating of these FETs is much higher, but depends on how long the pulse lasts. Not sure how the regular Phoenix's rate, but I would imagine they are built similarly.

Anyway, I too think the 60 is a little too small IMO for a MT...
