I tend to agree that the holes are left overs from the aircraft/heli motor design and was for addtional cooling. For offroad use the holes seem to be a liability, allowing dirt/rocks/metal particles into the can which would be bad.

Me personally, I use the RCM dust cover for the rear, and made my own out of thin aluminum for the front as my shaft was too short. But, I don;t see a probelm with the holes at all. And the cooling differences in covering them up is very minimal IMO. To me, the holes are no problem at all.

Cooling the inside of the motor is a little pointless since the coils are attached to the can. Maybe cooling the magnet helps?

These look awesome and if Neu is installing these, dust can't be a HUGE problem(???)...

The Bigmaxximums also have fans on them, has anyone with a BM ever had troubles with dust getting in the motor?

As others have said, the BM fans blow air on the outside, so it's not an issue. I can see fans on the Neus helping more if the fin orientation was lateral, not perpendicular to the can, but regardless, they really don't need fans IMO.

Just take a piece of thin aluminum sheet and make a cover. It doesn't have to be thick to keep dirt out, but it should be thermally conductive so you can use the motor mount as a secondary heatsink...

Just got my RC-Monster Neu dust cover and I was wondering what is the best way to attach it to the motor? Some kind of glue? Pressed on (will it stay on)?

As an example, the few nitro motors in planes and helis I have seen did not run air filters. See how long a nitro motor in a car runs without an air filter.

Just found out that the fans on the Neu motors direct air over the motor case, like the BM. Rather than forcing air into the motor itself.

Just press it on :) I have yet to have mine fall off or anything. Did not need any adhesive

Mine doesn't press on easily, unless I put it in a vice. The little screws are preventing it from going on. I could trim the inside of the cover but then I'm worried it won't stay on.

I have never seen a Neu 1515 series motor with those screws holding the endbell in place.Did you buy the motor new? or used?

I ordered it from Mike last week and I got it today. I didn't think those screws were normal, I've been looking at other Neu posts and haven't seen any screws. The shaft came with a flat spot in it also. Are the screws necessary?

I just recently recieved a Neu 1512/2D/F and a 1515/1Y/F and they both had flats and the screws. Must be a design change on newer motors.

Well I got it on my Dremeling it where all the screws are and I cracked it, but it would have went on if I Dremel'd it more. That's ok, I used a little plastidip to seal the crack, it'll do.

Maybe the screws are for the external cooling fan. I see the Bigmaxximum and maxximum have screws in a similar position to those to attach the fan.
