Q about radios - 03.29.2008, 10:28 AM

Hello,

The only experience I have with radio is using Traxxas' stock AM radios.

Now I'm planning on building an e-Revo for the spring and I'm wondering which radio system to get.

2 priorities:
--1) no interference/glitching with brushless (is that true, or an urban legend?)
--2) no problems with other people's radios (no crystals to change)

Other than that I want the simplest/cheapest Tx/Rx system around. No need to program, just your basic radio functions.

Can anyone make a few suggestions?

Thanks

Loa

Well...u get what u pay for. Any 2.4 system would be well worth the investment. Response of 2.4 systems is unbelievable.

Sounds like what you want is a basic 2.4ghz radio. As far as low cost goes, I would look for a Spektrum 2.0 or a Losi 2.4ghz RTR radio on ebay. Thats about as basic as you can get for a 2.4ghz.

Something like this.

or this

But there are plenty of FM radios that should work for you without glitching, but you will need to pay attention to others on the same frequency like with your stock radio. Many even run the stock AM radios without trouble. But, the AM stuff does tend to get more interference than FM. Any 2.4ghz should have no interference issues.

If you are happy with your stock radio function, try it. You might not have any problems at all.

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

Hello Jhautz,

Thanks for the added info. I'm really happy with the AM radio on my Rusty, but I'm afraid of interference.

I'll try looking for cheap / used radios on local RC forums.

Thanks

Look on ebay - I found 2 great deals on radios, a new 3pk an a used 3pjs. Its been a while, but if I was looking for a radio I'd start with ebay.

I set up all my rcs on these 2 fm radios. I've never had a glitch of any kind or interference - 2.4 came along too late and changing would be way too expensive with 20+ rcs.
