I hate to mention it, but fine design makes a savage motor mount for both 540 type and Neu 1500 series motors.

$50 for a motor mount and a crappy one at that going by the pictures I've seen. $30 pinions too  . Sorry I'm not having a go at you electric eel just fine designs. Your being helpful and it is another option.

Thanks for the link, that looks interesting. I may see what I can mock up to see if the motor can be mounted lower in the chassis, maybe below the spur gear.

Here we go, what you have all been waiting for. Everything is as clean as I care to get it, all bearings cleaned and oiled, and a fresh spur gear. I also installed the double disk brake kit as the old disk looked very worn.
Looking at the nitro motor mount plate, it looks easy to make an electric motor mount. I will use some angle al, and use the slotted holes for the nitro motor to adjust the mesh. I have about 3/8" space between the motor and the tvp with my desired gearing, so I can gear up if needed. I will save the kershaw mount in case I do not like mine, but mine will be much lower cg. It must lower the motor about 1.5-2 inches over the kershaw mount. Wonder why no one else makes simple mounts like this? I am using the smallest spur, 47t, so maybe there would be issues with the 52t? Motor shown is a 14xl, so there is plenty of space length-wise.
Battery trays are from FD, have had them for a while and they work in this application so I will use them. The spacers on the brake side are about twice as thick as I need, so I will cut them in half to bring the tray closer. I had to space that side to clear the tranny casing.
I put the trays up from for weight distribution as the motor and esc will be in the back. Plus they cleared the brake linkage that way, and are up out of the way. I will make some lexan covers for the lipos so they cannot be punctured or damaged.
Just need to wire it up and make the motor mount, this thing may run this weekend, or take 4 months to finish, who knows!

Forgot to add that i have settled on a battery for this project. I have 9 2500 18c cells, that will be made into 1 4s pack and 1 5s pack. I will most likely use a receiver pack, as I do not have a bec that can handle 9s input. I may hook up a bec to the balance tap of the 5s pack, but that may cause uneven discharge of the cells. I will cross that bridge later.
Since the motor will be mounted near the botton of the tvp, I will make an esc mount to place the esc above the motor, on the top of the tvps. The Great Planes esc is flat and has a heatsink, so I will put it with the heatsink facing up, in the airstream above the tranny. I will try it without a fan and see how it does.
The esc and rec pack will go in the front servo tray, and I will most likely leave the lid off, as I do not have one. If the lhs has one I may buy it. I usually run on grass and the road, so stuff does not get that dirty.

are you using a pinion or clutchbell on that beast. I am just picking up a savage and thinking conversion, but I'll probably order the flm setup from mike and rebuild this thing in the meantime

Going to use a pinion and plastic spur, 14/47 for the initial runs and will gear differently if needed. I also have the flm chassis on a brand new ss kit, still need to finish that!

Lookin' good, linc, but I have a question about the FD battery holders. What keeps the lipo from sliding rearward, because the holder is open at the rear.

I will use some velcro on the bottom of the tray and on the lipo to keep it in. I will also make a plexi gurd to go over the exposed sides of the lipo to protect from sticks, etc.

Got it finished and went for a short run. well, by finished I mean mocked up enough to drive it and test my setup. Went out with a pair of 4s 3600 lipos in series, and the power was great. Had some weird handling issues, and the twin brake setup is not liking the stock tranny output hex, I need the longer ss one. Found that the handling was due to a shock not attached to a lower are, and one tire was coming off the bead on the inside of the rim. Otherwise everything went well.
The great planes esc has a soft start up, not really bad, and some trim adjustment got rid of that almost. Esc did not really get much more than warm, motor was warmer, but not hot, and the lipos did not change. Run lasted about 10mins and was not really heavy throttle. Tranny shifts a bit too soon, but I can change that.
Very happy with this, and once I get the twin disk brake working right it should be fine. I will get some pics up tomorrow. Still need to make a final esc mount, and tidy up the wiring.
Any ideas on a good, cheap bec that can handle 10s lipo? I would prefer that to the receiver pack...
