Rustler with different suspension setup PICS - 04.09.2008, 11:10 PM

I tried a different shock location on the Rustler. Ground clearance is about 2.5" and has lots of suspension travel. Weight transfer to the rear is a bit quicker now. Got me a Lehner XL3100 running in either 3s2p for bashing or 6s1p for dragracing. I'll lower it for this weekends TNT dragrace and see how well it does with the new setup. The other benefit of the new suspension location, is less play in the carriers.

With some measurements I could do the math, but just by eye I'm going to say you'll need springs about 3 times harder at full compression. That may also give you some problems with stripping the ball ends out on off camber landings. The geometry is not hard to figure out but I suppose trial and error is the likley aproach...

If I could only draw what I see in my head, then afford to build it, and finaly get to play with it...

Only problem I see with that setup is that it raises the overall CG of the truck. I have no idea how noticable (if at all) it would be, but it's something to think about. Maybe you could mount the shocks at the lower arm outer hinge pin locations (for both front and rear) and mount the top of the shocks lower?

I was finally messing with it this morning and noticed that with this setup I would need swaybars when I take corners hard. But the weight transfer is great. I will see how well it does with rubber tires this coming Sunday and post my results.
