G3R with E-MAXX 3905 or E-REVO transmission - 04.21.2008, 01:27 AM

Is it possible to mount one of the transmissions(3905 e maxx or e-revo) in G3R?
I know it is to early to talk about E-REVO transmission, but anyone have ever tried the new e-maxx transmission?
Will I benefit form using them instead of old e-maxx transmission?
I am very cruioius about that.

I explored this option when I was building my GEVO (GorillaMaxx E-Revo) I was informed by GorillaMaxx and by Mike @ RCM that it was not possible to install the 3905 Trans in the GR3. I never looked at the option for the Revo trans, (sorry cant help you with that one).

I've had quite a few BL systems with custom chassis and I’ve had nothing but great success with the GM single speed transmission, you can also incorporate the new 3905 slipper system on to it by buying the output shaft off a Revo 3.3. Shorting the end 7mm and re-drilling the hole (and I can send you pictures if you would like??)

I do know that FLM does make an adaptor that allows you to install a 3905 in there chassis but that's another Thread / story..

Here is what mod looks like once it complete.




You need to use a 5/64 bit for your new Revo output shaft # 5366 / slipper application and will also need to remove approximately 7mm of the end. (I'm fabricating an output shaft for a budy of mine and will post before and after pics in a few days)

If your using a MOD1 spur you'll need a 27/64 for the center (for your 5x10mm bearing) you will also need to drill (3) holes bit size 13/64 for your clutch plate.

The stock emaxx one from the old transmission... I have the size in an email at home...

sorry reread the post. didnt the stock emaxx use a metal bushing not a bearing. also what kind of drill bit did you use and how far away is the new hole from the existing one. Lastly, how exactly did you drill through the shaft becuase i am using a drill press and oil and i am having a hard time.

Sorry you are correct - the RRP kit came with a bearing which I replaced later - I have the size at home in an email...

The RRP kit replaces the stock slipper without any drilling etc - Their emaxx kits though uses 32p - I'm just ordering the MGT spur from them which is 54T Mod 1.

Sorry I jumped in based on your real objective being mod 1, smaller spur and reliability. RRP does all of this without any drilling / hacks. It is simply a bolt up solution. rgds

I ment the drilling on the revo input shaft. How exactly did you drill that (revo shaft) out using the drill press because my bit just wont eat through that steel. what bit are you using and are there any strategys i am missing. Also out ouf curiousity about how far apart is the new hole(the one you drilled) from the existing one on the revo shaft.

Ps.
You need a titanium drill bit to drill through harden steel. I just got one from Homedepot for $6

You will also need a guide to drill the hole straight, I used a second gear of the stock 3906 transmission or you can use any of the existing gears off the Revo output shaft.

Again I'm sorry but I'm on a conference call now and will not be able to do this until this evening..

PS. the hole you need to drill is just behind the existing slipper hole, drill it as close as possible to that hole and then cut / grind down the end of the output shaft to the end hole.
