Some of them have a bad component in the BEC circuit.

These components come on a roll, and it was found to have some that didn't meet specs. They have a new roll that has been checked out ok.... and the "bad" roll was sent back to the mfg.

Sooooo..... that's why a few Monsters have died peacefully, while most are going strong and should not have such issues.

Castle told me today that any Monsters that are sent in are being put at the front of the line... and it's a simple component swap.

Suks that some of the guys outside the US got a bad one.

Thanks for the info glass doctor. It does suck. It means I'll be waiting a few weeks for mine to be returned.

It needs to be PWFMMS, People With Fried Mamba Monsters Syndrome. you have to have syndrome in there to be taken seriously.

I sent them an e-mail a few days ago and have not received a reply yet. I'm sure I will in a few days but I just sent the thing back via air mail in the mean time, not express. Honestly couln't be **** spending another $40+ to have it shipped back express. I have to say that the one thing that is a little annoying about castles customer service is that it takes them forever to answer e-mails (probably cause they are just busy). I have called them before but that is a pain as I have to get up stupidly early in the morning and everytime I do the person I am calling for isn't there. Anyway when they get my parcel I'm sure they'll be able to figure out what to do with it.

I've seen this happen a lot since I started selling electronic components and it will happen more not only with Castle, but any electronic device being made. A tape/reel will some times have a few chips that will fail. I have to say that the few that went bad shows how good Castle's manufacturing really is. I had Philips Brasil try to blame me for 75,000 TV sets that went bad. Funny thing is that Philips bought a Philips MOSFET from me that was in a sealed package. I told Philips Brasil to deal with Philips as they were the manufacturer. Funny how I can sell Philips components to Philips .

That really sucks for CC. Bad press for an otherwise great product. Id be havin some words with that component supplier and makin sure it doesnt happen again.

The only other copmplaint I have about the MMM so far is the fans are junk. Mine quit already after 1 race day and the only other guy around here with a MMM also had his fan die after 1 race day and some test runs.

CC was cool about sending out a replacement post haste.... But I have a feeling this wont be the last time it gets replaced. I'd like to see an optional top half of the case that gets rid of the fan and exposes the heatsink to some natural air flow. I'm willing to bet it doesnt need the fan for 95% of applications.

I wonder if they would sell me just a top half of the case that I could modify. As it is, without a fan it seems like it would be hard to get enough air in there to keep it cool.

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

I wondered about them putting a fan on this too. I'm guessing the failure rate on the fans are going to be high esp. running in dirty environments.
