is there a easier way to run nimh and lipos on my MMM? - 05.21.2008, 06:20 AM

my main battery for my 3905 is a pair of 2s lipo. but i also have a set of 7 cells. i have my lipo shut off at 12.4 and if i was to run the nimh, the lvc will cut out the power pretty quick. so is the only way to bring out my laptop and connect the usb and disable the lvc? if thats the case...its not even worth the time to open up the reciever box, and wiring up the usb and then change the lvc. do you guys think if i set the lvc to auto lipo, it would tell when im using nimh? any suggestions here...i really dont want my 7cells to go to waste? i would like to run the nimh after the lipos..but it doesnt really matter, i just wanna use both if possible without having to link up the usb.

You could try autolipo. It should recognise the 4s and then for nimh you may get premature cutouts but can at least go again after re-arming...

The easiest way to deal with this problem is to put the NiMH on eBay. :) I've found that for 1/8th scale/MT stuff, NiMH has really anemic performance, unless you go to 18 cells or more, but then you're hauling around 2# of cells.

i was pretty happy with my 14 old vented gp3300's and a 9xl. gearing would alow me to still do weelies at ease and still have a top end more than enough for bashing around. the batts did get up in temp 160's at the end of the run though.

I use cellshield lipo saver. I connect the balancer plugs on cellshield and drive save with lipo. The A123 packs without connecting to the cellshield, all is fine too. The cellshield observer only when a balancer plugged in.

So u need no cut off ^^

Get out the marshmallows!

Those kinda temps will really shorten pack life. I had a 7700kv castle motor that would just bake the cells, 160 degrees too. Couldn't hardly hold onto them after a run. That went away after I got a 2S lipo, but even that got to 120 deg.

I do agree with you, you can certainly run 'em. I guess I'm just jaded with Lipo and A123's.

yea im def. happy to run them into the ground. plus 1/3 of the cells vent if i charge them too fast. So needless to say there pretty beat, and they dont hold a charge for more than an hour or so.
I would def. love to go to a123 but there realy priced at a peak lately. one of those dewalt packs go for 140-150$ on ebay(10 cells). quality lipos are still pricey and i just dont like the temprament. I was thinking about getting a box of those sony li-ion. decent discharge rate. and realy sturdy cells. no need to balance and not so sensitive to lv. plus abox of 25 for 160 on ebay would give me all kinds of options. But alas ill have to wait. I just bought a brushless boat. hopefully that will keep me occupied till my mmm comes in.

ok so i guess auto lipo is my only option besides buying something which i dont want.
what do you mean by re arming? you mean just turning the esc off, and plugging in the nimh batts and turning it back on right?
