Kyosho gears - 05.16.2008, 01:02 PM

Will the Kyosho gears on this site work on my X1-CRT 1/8th truggy center differential? I'm having a hard time finding a smaller spur/center diff gear. The stock one is 62t which is too large for the speed i want to do.

I had a conversation with mike on this a couple weeks ago yes the kyosho spur does fit with no mods but depending on what kv your motor you may need a extremly small pinion. my motor is a 2000kv I would need a 11t pinion maximum the problem is when there so small the mod 1 pitch gets thown off a little. He did suggest a 51t spur from a HB lightning then you could go with a slightly bigger pinion. here is a tidbit of information he filled me in on is the x1-crt is geared the same as a buggy hence the reason for that large spur.

Kyosho spur fits fine. Also, the pinion size will be depending on your setup. I run a 2000kv 1512 2.5d in my CRT and find my pinion choice to be around 15t. I'm only running 4s though. If worst comes to worst, you can run the LSP ring and pinions to give you more gear.

Also, if you haven't ordered your motor mount yet, I suggest ordering the car mount. Combine it with the diff posts from the car. You will have a much lower center of gravity this way. The motor slots will also be in a better location allowing you to use a fuller range of gears. I've never tried it, but I don't think the smaller pinions will fit on my setup (I accidently got the truck mount).

I will be using 4s most of the time and i would like to have as tall of gearing as temps will allow. I found a 50T HB Lightning spur that might work.

I'm telling ya, I don't think it will be fast enough for you. Plug it into Brian G's speed calculator. I don't remember the results when I did, but it seems like my truck is pushing 35 with the tall gearing I have. Again, I'm running 46/15.

Would 46/17 be good in my CRT?

My motor is a Nemesis from FDMbefore i knew about RCM, anyway i think it is comparable to a 9 or 10XL. The tire measurement sounds about right.

No way would I gear a Feigao at 17:46 in a CRT. Gearing for 50mph on 4S with a Feigao isn't something I would recommend unless you don't want to do anything but 1 or 2 speed runs and put it up. Your BL system is going to get quite toasty trying to pull that gearing.

What about 46/15 with a RCM heatsink on the motor?

I'm not sure I'd go that low either. It would help to know exactly what wind your motor is. Heck, I don't even have my 1515/1Y in my CRT geared that low. I'm running 13:62 for about 35mph.

Which nemesis is it? xlt 1 2 or 4?

That is going to be important for anyone to recommend a pinion...

Ok, so that is a 9xl or so...

Use a 12 or 13t pinion, that will get you around 40 mph. Temps should be fine.
