Just a case of mods with too much power. I once got 20% for saying "crap", which I thought was plain stupid. But it's their forum, so they get to make the rules (however illogical they may be).

I got a 20% for writing "PITA" when talking about replacing the diffs on the Emaxx. That was in '05 and I still have that 20%. My Mormon cousins in Utah use fouler language than what is allowed on TRX, lol.
I hardly ever post there due to the crazy draconian rules and high degree of nuewb threads and comments. The Revo section is pretty good for racing setups and other useful info, but some of the other sections are useless.

Sometimes looking on there gives me a headache. I post sometimes, but when I get on and every other post is virtually the same.........

He was a lot better when not a mod, now that he is, he thinks his opinions are the end all be all. What amazes me is how many of the mods on there are stuck back in 1999 and don't seem to realize things have changed since then.

I can feel a Prince song coming on....
True though, cooleo still runs an old emaxx with almost zero upgrades/ changes from since he bought it back in '01- how the heck can the mods help the members if they dont know jack-diddly? The mods here, god bless them, arent really mods at all really, more like tech advisors and highly experienced, which is exactly what a forum needs to be any good. Heck, I should be a mod on the trx forum....

Traxxas -

Well I was going to join up there like 12 to 24 months ago to see what was up as a newbie. When I tried to sign up, it got kicked back at me saying no way. It took a while for me to get an answer as to why. I spent some time reading through a few threads to see what was up. Finally I was told that you have to have a PAY email browser account in order to register. I have had a free Yahoo account for nearly ten years, and I have never had any problems with anyone else telling me that crap. Why in the heck would I want to open a pay account just to post on their forum? That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Once I came on to the RCM forum and got to see what the difference was I never went back to their site.
Who wants to be a member of some forum where you have the Natzi word police telling you every day that you cannot say things like PITA or crap. Then you get awarded 20% like an elementery school demerrit. Only children would put up with that CRAP, because they don't know any better. At least the moderators show some maturity on here. Yea we all make a mistake or slip once in a blue moon, but for the most part we are pretty clean here in RCM. I am happy that I stumbled onto this site. Besides the gang here have a lot more to offer in the way of common sense, and there is a ton of talent in here as well. You can actually learn things outside the box in here. You can just read the kit manuals for most of the posts in Traxxas. Sorry if that offends anyone here. I am just speaking my mind on what I have seen in comparison between the two. I am sure that there are some talented guys on there to, I guess they just do not post up.

Moderators for the most part are just police officers & babysitters for the message boards and most likely aren't paid for their services. Expecting them to be techs is a bit much IMO. Being a moderator at another site/hobby of similar size I have a bit of experience
It would be nice if there were techs who would be available on a regular basis for the masses but getting them to do it for free is difficult.

True and true. It would be advantageous though to know at least a fair amount about emaxx's and BL setups in general though, since that is what the whole emaxx section revolves around pretty much, but then again, maybe traxxas is just happy to let people try to figure things out for themselves with the only help being.... me usually.
I would like to see better organization though mainly, since the emaxx section is just one big forum, with no seperate sections for batteries, motors, driveline, suspension etc. If you could brake it down a little, and have actual helpful stickies like here, there wouldnt be half as many noobish posts and questions to contend with all the time.

Back several years ago the forum was better organized and better in general. It has gone down hill in my opinion. There used to be several stickies on the e-maxx page including brushless faq, battery faq, and so on.
The one thing that irritates me on there the most now is how the mods pick which vendors they will allow to support their products. Some outside people are allowed, some not, with no rhyme or reason. It's how they pick and choose which rules to enforce and who they enforce them with.

I understand what they are trying to do, and they have teh right to do it, but its still lame. Trx is the entry-level RTR RC company, and attract lots of young kids into RCs and they want their forums non-objectionable for 8-10 year olds (and their parents) so they try to Disneyfy the forums. Consequently there are tons of 10, 13, 15 year olds who have no idea what they are talking about, and lots of 13yo level arguements (sometimes from adults who argue like 13yos as well.)
Again, thanks again to Mike for a place adults to get together and have (sometimes :P ) mature discussions.

You have to use your ISP email or paid email service to join. Kinda lame IMO.
