Brushless revo: 3905 tranny or revo tranny? - 06.17.2008, 10:52 AM

I'm building a brushless revo out of spare parts I have. It'll have the 3.3 chassis. As I don't have a tranny yet I was wondering which option would be best and why?
-Emaxx 3905/Erevo tranny?
-Revo 2 speed tranny (and then locked in second or not, forward only or not)?

I don't want mechanical brakes, and plan on using 2 3s lipo packs which I will also be using in my G2R revo.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

the 3905 tranny is nice because you don't need to change any internals.

I've used both, and I tend to prefer the revo tranny locked in 2nd. If you are not using mechanical brakes, you will want it to be locked in 2nd gear with the forward only conversion. This is just so that you can use motor brakes / reverse.

Does the 3905 tranny just bolt directly in?

there are a few mods you would need to do but nothing too difficult if you use the Revo tranny everything remains stock except for the internal parts of the tranny...( FOC and removing 1st gear and locking in 2nd gear)

I have a full write up HERE on how to do the 3905 conversion.. and it is by FAR the best way.. you can have a perfectly balanced truck running any battery config you want.. it runs sweet on the track as well... super super durable, but you will need the 3905 tranny and the 3905 long center shaft. The rest you use from the revo 3.3 roller.

I have 1st gear removed to eliminate rotating mass since I wont need it ( you dont need the 1st gear due to the torgue put out by electic motors) and locking 2nd gear allows you to have reverse when using the motor braking setup. Using the Forward Only Conversion allows you to remove the reverse gears that are very weak and to remove more unneeded parts
