Setup help - 06.23.2008, 04:36 PM

How do you setup the spek radio and RX with a BL setup? I plug the series adapter in and it power up the truck right away when the switch on the MM is off. I have the RX binded but the power should not come on with the switch on the MM off right? Please help

IIRC, the switch on the MM simply disables the ESC motor output, but the BEC circuit still works.

What IIrc mean? I am not getting you. I just went to setup the functions like the MM book says and when I hit the throttle to calibrate it the front wheels turn right.

IIRC=If I remember correctly.

If the steering actuates on throttle, it sounds like you have your throttle and steering connectors in the wrong receiver ports.

Okay I got the steering correct now on the RX. The throttle is plugged in. When I switch on the MM it makes the sound but it is not accepting the throttle endpoint. Could this be due to having the motor wires connected wrong?

No, motor wires connected "wrong" will only make the motor spin the wrong way. The only thing that matters is that all three wires are securely connected.

First, set your radio endpoints to 100% for both brake/reverse and forwards, and then set the trim to 0 (centered). Then try again.

Okay I will try that and get back to you. Thanks for the help thus far.

Nothing. The steering works. However when I hit the throttle nothing happens when I hold it full throttle turning the ESC switch on. I get the beeps and the light on the ESC continually flash. I'm lost.

I have the BEC wired into the TRX connector that is coming off the ESC, positive to positive and negative to negative.

This is how I have my RX set up.

RX reads:

Aux: One steering plug going in here
Thr: BEC plug in here
Str: Other steering plug in here
Bat/Tel: ESC plug in here.

You are using an external BEC. Assuming it is connected right (sounds like it is), did you disable the MM's BEC?

I assume you are following these instructions (particularly the bold):
  1. Solder a high quality battery connector to the ESC.
  2. Mount the ESC and motor into the car.
  3. Plug in the 3 motor wires to the 3 motor wires on the ESC.
  4. Plug in the ESC Rx lead to CH2 on your receiver.
  5. Make sure the ESC’s switch is off.
  6. Plug in a battery.
  7. Holding full throttle on your transmitter, turn the switch ON.
    1. After a few seconds you’ll hear multiple tones and the red LED will come on.
    2. Now hold full brake and after a few seconds you’ll hear multiple tones and the yellow LED will come on.
    3. Now relax to neutral and after a few seconds you’ll hear multiple tones and ALL the LEDs will light up.
    4. A few seconds later the ESC will arm with a double tone and you’re ready to go!

Doing exactly that. Like I said when I plug in the batteries with the switch on the ESC off my spek RX will power up and steering servos will buzz. I am extremely frustrated right now man. It should not be this complicated. The RX has me a little confused due to it not stating channel 1, channel 2, ect. Just what I listed above.

Yes the red wire was unplugged like it specifies.

I don't know either. Sounds like things should work fine. I have spektrum in all my stuff and have no issues whatsoever.

BTW:
- Ch1 is steering.
- Ch2 is throttle.
- Ch3 is auxillary.

And the black wire on the throttle/steering cable faces the outside of the case, the red wire in the middle, and the white/yellow wire faces the inside of the case. If you have the throttle cable reversed, it won't work (but won't damage anything). Try flipping the cable.

Okay I got it to work but off the steering wheel. The steering wheel is controlling the motor moving. Still confused.
