Mamba Max on 5s - 06.24.2008, 01:02 AM

I have read on some posts were guys are running a MM on 5s of lipo what needs to be done to do this. If it cant be reliable I dont want it ill just wait for my MMM to get back from castle but I would like to do the mod so I could use it for a backup.
Man I hate dusting my RCs I would rather drive the dust off.

From what I hear, some MM ESC's work on 5s and some don't. The first things you will need to do to the MM ESC though is add an external BEC, a cap(s) and a fan will help very much as well.

I personally wouldn't risk it though, and just wait for your MMM...

I havnt done it yet, but from what I have heard disable the LVC and the MM will arm, than you have 2 options either run with an external LVC or risk it...I have thought of doing this with my Rustler...I am still working on my FLM upgrades with the Rustler, and my BL Revo is still going strong so no rush

I have two MM's - one will run on 5S and the other will not (only up to 4S). The MM LVC will auto-detect up to 4S, for more than 4S you just have to set the LVC to a custom value (ie: 16 volts @ 3.2v/cell or 16.5 @ 3.3v/cell).

I have a Novak 25mm mounted on top of the heatsink (small screws will nicely just thread themselves into the heatsink) and I use the CCBEC. No cap mods in place. No problems with temps at all ever going above 120-130* even when pushing 1000-1200 watts through the ESC.

I say no harm in trying it - it'll either arm and work or it won't. Just take it easy for the first few runs pushing it a little more each time and keep an eye on temps.

Luck is what runs some MM's on 5S. ESC is rated for 3S. Will have to run a external BEC and probably 2 Fans

dude. considering the cost and the short time beofre the MMM is available, dont risk it!

a few more weeks isnt going to hurt, having no esc and having both sitting in castles office would be much worse...

I read recently about someones frying on trying to arm it with 5s. I think it was DickyT

Yep found it

I plugged in my 5s pack, flipped the power switch on the MM and it smoked as soon as it armed. I didn't even get to pull the throttle.

My Mamba works fine on 5s, with a multipole motor at that.

I've been running mine on 6S without a problem. I'm using a cc bec, fan and mod one done.

I've also ran it on 5S but the custom LVC didn't work for me. Also it sometimes worked on 4S but sometimes it didn't. Just a heads up.

Artur(griffin) he adds copper plates inside for heatsinks. Changes the 3 caps with high voltage better ones, a diode, and an extra cap. I think that's it. Some one please correct me if I'm wrong.

They are hit or miss running 5s. Some do... some dont... I woulnt say that frying the minute you flip the switch isnt normal on 5s. I wouldnt let one incident sway your decision. ANd absolute worst case scenario it will cost $50 to get a new one from CC under the replacement plan. But odds are it will either work or just wont arm.

I have 2 old ass MMs that have been fed a steady diet of 5s since the first time I hooked them up. I never had a problem with either of them. I have another that won't arm at all on anything more than 4s. (that one went into the CRT.5 on 3s)

( funny thing though.... By the time you buy a MM a CC BEC and a fan it is almost the same cost a MMM if they were actually available.)

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

6s on a mamba max? Wow first I've heard of it! Does it arm when fully charged at 25.2V?

Yep no problems. I'm running a 1600 medusa in a rustler so I really don't think I'm pulling many amps. The run time is jusy sick with a 4000mah dymond bat. and the temps are way down.
