hydra 240 hv and neu 1515 good combo? - 07.08.2008, 02:04 PM

Hi guy's I am setting up a boat right now with the new castle hydra 240 high voltage esc and a nemesis (feigo) 10 xl running 5s 12,000 mah and was wondering if I stepped up to a neu 1515 2.5d would it cog like with the mamba max? Or is cogging just a car and truck problem. Are their any boat guy's on this forum?

well cogging can happen in a boat possibly. But i dont think it is very likely. The only thing i see cogging a motor in a boat would be a enormously over sized prop.

CC don't cog with a neu really any more - on a boat I would think very load from stationary - I would say no issue.

I would look over at offshore elecs - they have a 1527 1d for 235 - That would make it move...

PS confused you mention a 240 hydra and the the MM - Why not run the hydra with the neu?

Ok cool thanks guy's...also the boat should't be to much of a handful it's a 29'' titan mono hull that most guy's already run 4s and a 9xl so to use my 5s truggy packs I just stepped down to a 10xl. It needs duel packs for balance and my 5s 6000mah pq packs should work nice in parallel and give me about 35-40 minutes of run time (I hope). I would drop a lehner 1950 in it but they are ultra hard to come by and the hackers are sweet but obsolete (based on price). Maybe I'll look into this new medusa everyone is talking about.

Holy cow! 1527 1d? I just looked it up that's like 2300kv on 5s that's about 42,500 rpm O MY GOD! I like to play it safe at around 30,000 or so rpm's although a longer motor would run nice and cool I'll bet.

O I was just comparing the hydra to the mm cause their both castle controls and I thought since the neu was a 4 pole motor that it would have some cogging issues like the mm. I'm happy to hear that it might not be a problem.

42500 on a neu is nothing - they are rated to 60k.

You are thinking of a feigao where 30-35k is the target range.... For the money and the power the 1527 would be excellent.

yep as long as you are below the max 60k you are good. With a boat though you are more on the throttle so i would stay around 50 - 55k max on a boat.

I will keep that in mind guy's...since boats are water cooled up the butt heat shouldnt be an issue I will run the boat with the 10xl on 5s and if it can handle more power I will try a bigger faster neu for sure there must be a point where too much power is....well too much but we will see thanks.

I am pleased to say congratulations to you ( and also Doug Twaits jr.) for obtaining the fastest 1 mile heat time ever, in any fuel source category, gas, electric or nitro, in any organization.


Doug just set the record at 101.93 seconds for the 1 mile race held at Camp Dearborn in Michigan, should be an interesting warm up for the Nationals, I am including a couple of pictures, it was done on 8s 1p, and a Neu 1527. ( Namba S-Hydro)





I must say the display of Neu motors and their sucess at the Michigan Cup was outstanding, and the amount of power available was Awesome.

I just got off the phone with my boat guy and he just swapped the 10xl nemesis for a neu 1515/1y smooth (2200kv) and with my 5s it will be a cruise missle with more than enough power.

Sure but ya gotta do yer own brown nosing!...lol. And pay him an extra 135.00. My boat is sitting on his workbench ready to ship to me he's just waiting for my decal kit to show up then I'm set I should be running it in a week or so...when I asked him how well the 1515/1y performed on 5s he just made this evil sounding giggle.

Being a boat guy myself, you will not have any issue with an xl motor in a boat. Water cooling will easily handle any heat generated by the feigao. A neu 1515 will make more power, but in a 29" boat may be overkill. I run a modded spuervee 27" with the stock motor and esc. It does 43mph so far, and I can get 15min runtimes with a 7200 4s lipo (pair of 3600 for balance purposes), and no heat on anything. 12000mah 5s will get you better runtimes, but you will want to keep motor rpm around 30k. Most sport boat prop recomendations are based on around 30k rpm max. I run an octura x642 prop, and it hauls ass. The sv27 motor/esc combo is good for around 550-600 watts. If you want to go faster than 40mph (which is moving, especially with a sub 35" boat) you may want to go with a bigger hull, or find some glass smooth water. At 43mph, the trim tabs and half of the prop is all that touches the water on my sv27, you can see dailight under the entire hull. Boats are very fun, especially the pucker factor when you laungh, or submarine one. Best advice I can give you is tape the hatch with good masking tape...

Thanks for the info I thought maybe 40,000 rpm's was a touch much...this boat has a gear drive trans with about 160 possible gear combinations so if I'm way to fast can't I just gear back a little or what about the end point adjustment on the radio...cant I turn that back for less speed? Or should I call the boat man back and tell him to order me a 1515/2.5d smooth can. Let me know what you think bro!
