For the RC8 with stock gearing 4s and the 1512/2.5d Id say start with 18T-20T pinions. Depending on how big your track is. That should be a good place for you to start. 37-41mph. Thats what I find to be nice solid track speeds that allow you to balance run time and power.

I have changed my setup a little, while I am waiting for the conversion kit.
I think I am going to go ahead and run 5s 5000 pack.
would the 2.5 still be the choice,or would the motor choice change?
Thanks again,
Kevin

On 5s if you are looking for nitro comparable power I would say drop it down to a 1512/3D (1700kv) motor. It will give you more runtime and cooler temps thatn the 1512/2.5D on 5s. Still coparable power to the fastest nitro and a bit more so no worries there.

Another thing... If you are going to jump to 5s you can go with a smaller pack than the 5000mah 5s packs. They start to get a bit bulky in a buggy. A 5s 4000mah pack has the same amount of energy in it as the 4s 5000 pack you were going to get. and for a racing setup the lighter weight battery will help the handling a bit. I run 5s and the 1512/3D in my race buggy and love it BTW. Any enerland based 5s 4350 pack is perfect IMO and will easilly let you run a 15 minute main. I can just squeeze 20 minutes out of a 5s 4350 pack, but in a long main like that I go with the 5000 just to be sure and sacrafice having to carry the extra weight.

great info,I mainly will be using enerland cells.
I'm getting a great deal on a brand new tp extreme 5s 5000 pack.
I will just use the 4s setup in my revo

another thing to remember is as you get heavier it will increase your amp draw due to a heavier strain on the motor

I have the 2.5D in my RC8 and running stock gearing. I am going to try a 17 and 18 next for a little top end boost but tbh I run a fair sized track and am able to hang with any nitro except a few of the better motors. lots of grunt on the infield though. I'd like to try 5S but I'll wait for V2 of the MMM for that. on 4S the MM is doing fine.

The only problem you will find with gearing is room. With the 2.5D F (finned) I had to dremmel a couple fins off the motor to clear the chassis brace. To get a lower gearing you should invest in a larger spur, like a 46 (I am using the stock 44 with a 16 like stock gearing). you could also drill a new hole in the chassis and mount the brace on the other side of the cvd
