New Jammin CRT setup? - 07.23.2008, 12:41 AM

Hey guys, I'm thinking of trying a new motor/battery setup in my CRT. Currently I'm running a Neu 1515/1y on 4s truerc 8Ah packs(on a V1 MMM). It is a great setup, it is defiantly enough for the track, but I think I want more power. Am I crazy? Maybe those who have seen my setup in person can chime in(Finnster, Arct1k, Mike) I know I have a high quality setup, maybe I just need to try some better lipos? I kinda want to try a 6s setup. How does a kb4510xl(1200kv) on 6s sound?

What about THIS lipo for my current setup? What about going 5s with my 1515/1y and gearing down?

Opinions?

Thanks!

I have a neu energy 4s 5000mah pack and it's worth every penny of the 200 bucks it cost. Don't skimp on your lipo with that amazing of a setup man. You'l see the huge difference the extra 10 or 15c discharge rate makes (depending on what tru rc pack you have).

GO NEU!

I'd definitely stick with the neu. Is it really worth switching out a high quality, long-running, powerful beauty for a amp-hungry, cheap, hot-running beast? I'd just get a flightpower 5 or 6s pack, and call it macaroni.

I think what you have is enough for the track - I've order the Castle 2200 for 6s2p A123 in the GRevo - Unless you have something else to stick it in I'd keep that motor and maybe get a 5s pack OR I'd try to sell the motor for about 220 (ppl seem to pay this) and I'd by a 1515 2.5DF for 225 new. That way you can gear up on 4s (Ryan ran this at the weekend with no issues) but have the option to run 5 (Mike and I ran this at the W/E) or 6s for crazy :)'s

the 1y isnt a really amp hungry beast imo it make alot of torque qithout amps, i think the packs you have are pretty good, for that, i have the 5000 10c's in my truggy pushing a 1y, i dont see how much more torque i could have

I was talking about the KB45 as an amp-hungry beast.

So what exactly are you trying to get out of it then? Just more top end? Personally I wouldn't downgrade the Neu for a cheap chinese motor. Like Chris said, I was running a 2.5D on 4S and it was certainly doing fine and easily as fast as any nitro, if not still a bit faster. I used to run my 2Y (1100kv) on 8S and it was a bit overpowered on the track if anything. 7S suited me fine, but that's just me.

If anything I would just do what Chris said and do 5S for a power boost. Problem is tho will be getting inexpensive packs that can put out enough amps. I ran the TRC 8ah packs and 5Ah packs this weekend. 120A is no sweat for the 8ah packs, I was pushing the 5ah packs pretty hard tho. Perhaps look at a 5S Zippy pack and try it out.

What I'm looking for is more "snap". I think I'll try 5s and gear down.(with my neu) A lighter lipo than what I have will do me good too...

What is your gearing/FDR btw? Gearing down may def help some. 180A is alot for the 1Y, OTOH my 2Y was pulling peaks of upto 85A on 8S, tho generally it was ~65A. That's still at least 130A, which is alot in anyone's book.

My total reduction ratio is 14.64835 : 1(using a 14t pinion 62t spur). This is on 4s. To achieve basically the same speed on 5s I'd need a 11t pinion. I know Mike saw 180amp spikes with his 1y on 4s in his e-maxx and I constantly max out my eagletree so...

How does a Neu 1521/2D (1425kv) on 6s LIPO sound? That setup compared to my 1515 1y(2200kv) on 4s for racing?

Opinions?

Bye
