Ruined 9XL Motor? - 08.04.2008, 01:21 PM

The other night i was at the track running my big crt hard, had been for about 20-minutes, when my negative motor wire came off of my mamba max control board and needless to say, it came to a complete stop and wouldn't go anymore. I was near full throttle down the backstretch when it happened. Afterwards, the truck would not roll freely, so i thought it was the diff, took the pinion gear off the motor and the truck rolls fine, but the motor shaft will no longer turn by hand, did i fry the motor?

It sounds like maybe the magnet seperated from the rotor shaft . If thats the case it very well could have weged againgt the windingd causeing the motor not to turn . Maybe a bearing locked up . What were the temps & how many runs on the motor ?.

Well i didn't keep a check on the temp but i'm geared 16/46 with an RCM heatsink, u could put your hand on it after running an 8000 mah lipo. there was no smoke. The motor has been ran about 8 times i'd say on 4s 6 and 8000mah packs. This is a Nemesis XLT-4 which i was told is roughly a 9XL if that makes a difference. Before i knew better, i ran it twice in an G3r revo on 5s 6000mah pack geared at 22/72.

I dont know anything about the nemesis ratings. All i know is that if a electric motor doesnt turn over . More than likely something is locked up . either a bearing or the rotor . Someone else will have to chime in to try & help you out.

I just re read your thread . If your saying your negitve esc wire de soldered from the ESC. You are diffenitly drawing to many amps for some reason . The esc would have to get pretty hot for that to happen . Is that what happened ?.
