Cheap ESC for a 4s lipo - 08.09.2008, 03:23 AM

I have an old RC10 I would like to make brushless. I'm looking for a cheap ESC that can take up to 4s lipos. Reverse is a must. Anyone know where I can find a cheap one?

The motor will quite possibly be a Neu 1512 2.5d.

I wouldn't personally skimp on a controller with that nice of a motor...
You could get a Mamba Max for pretty cheap, or even a Sidewinder if you want to go really low into the price. I'd recommend a Mamba Max though.

Yeah Mamba Max has been proven pretty reliable on 4s setup although it is rated for 3s, been running mine without any problems. got it off a forum member for $90 :)

Well, it's rated for 12 cells nimh, which is pretty much 4s LiPoly. I haven't heard of any problems voltage related runnning 4s on one, especially on a light truck. 5s is a different story though.

A 1512 in an RC10 would be a wheely machine, wouldn't it? That big of a motor hanging off the back would be pretty unbalanced. Maybe you could do one of those tranny reversals or just convert it to front wheel drive and rear wheel steering by driving in reverse everywhere. Post pics or video when done. I have an old RC10 team car collecting dust, I should do something with it :)

Bro do you mean rc10 as in rc10? I would hang on to the 1512 and toss it in an 1/8 scale buggy. As for the rc10 just a simple mamba max 5700 on 2s should easily over power it (ive owned 3 rc10s).

+1

that's a big (and expensive) motor for such a small ride, so something like a 1509 or 1506 would be a more suitable Neu. But if you already have it, strap her in and hang on. :)

Lehner basic is a nice 1/10 motor... haven't heard much of them being used lately.

I run a L size Feigao on 4s in a Rustler and that is all the power you would want

You cant use a neu 1506 or 1509 they have 5mm shafts and there are no 5mm bore 48 pitch pinions out there, plus I don't even think you could get the larger diameter neu in there and if you could you wouldnt be able to move it around for gear changes. The rc10 is a little 2 wheel drive buggy that can't handle tons of power and even if it could..how would you control it?

I didn't really think much into this project, I just thought.. I got to RC10, and a soon to be spare 1512 motor...

Possibly it would be better to just run this thing on 2s, to help keep the power down. I'm gonna think about this more, tonight I'll check out if this motor will even fit.

Thanks for the help... I'll let you know after I do a test fit.

I ran my rc10t4 with a mm and a 7700 on 2s and it is more than fast enough. 1/10 trucks are so light you don't need much battery or motor to go fast.

I just went mamba max on 4s in my 9 pound violator 9.5 buggy and it's working great outstanding in fact...I was very suprised how cool it ran with a 25mm fan screwed to the top of it, you will also need an external bec, I recommend staying away from the castle bec and getting a nice trusty unit from dimension or a hercules.

I dont have an RC10 but a Revo spur bolts up to the VXL tranny and I run a 40 tooth tooth revo spur and a MOD 1 16 tooth pinion and this setup runs great ...you just have to remove the gear cover

I did look over the the Rc10. It looks as if the motor will physically fit. I would have to find a spur gear.

This motor does look like it would be huge. I have been driving the revo so long I forgot how small this other rc is. I'm also noticing how small the drive shafts and connecting knuckles are looking on this thing.

I'm going to think about it more, seems like a better idea might be to sell the 1512, and find a good deal on a motor/esc combo.
