Zippy-H 5S 4000mah 25C pack Eagletree run w/ pics -
08.09.2008, 09:41 PM
Just got my Zippys in today and gave them a quick run around. Very happy so far and these batts pack quite a punch. Just a 5min test, but got 112A (~28C) @ 18V (3.6V/cell.) I also got a pair of zippy-h 4s 2100 mah batts for my CRT.5 with a 12s fiegao. I have a Neu 30C 2500mah pack as well. These batts felt just as powerful. I wanted to do some back to back comparisons, but the 1/8'' motor shaft on the motor snapped... Any know if you can get a replacement 5mm rotor for an S can? oh well...
The big Zippy back was only $98. Temp was very cool at end of run. 2000+W and not at all stressed. :)

this is what ive been waiting for...
is that huge of voltage drop normal?
i hooked up my wattmeter, and measured 10.2v @ 104.6A with a 42 a123 pack, and i was a bit dissapointed, so will all lipos drop this much? (i.e. how much do premium cells drop?)
thanks,
ryan

Be very careful with those packs. They work great, but I got bad batch a couple of weeks ago. I normally would run with the auto lipo cutoff to 3v per cell. Never had a problem with my more expensive brand packs. I did that with the 5s 4000 Zippy-H and 4s 5000 Zippy H and they got waaay out of balance. It took quite a bit of babying to get them back in balance. One of the 5s 4000 packs did randomly die on me though. I changed the LVC to 3.2/cell and they seem to work fine. Good bang of the buck though. I just ordered two more 5s 4000s.

Yes, all batteries drop voltage under load. The power and quality of a battery is determined by how much. I assume you have a 4s1p A123 pack? 105A is a 45C discharge..ouch. 2.5V isn't terrible considering, but you need to have a 2P pack for that load.
Here's a enerland based Neu lipo, my 4S 30C 2500mah @32C discharge (~3.1v/cell): This is when I was doing the 60mph passes in my CRT.5.
And here is a A123 pack. A 5s2p pack, 26C @ 2.8v/cell. Remember tho that A123s are lower nominal V, so really a 5S A123 pack is ~=a 4S lipo. Then it equals ~3.5V/cell, which is considered good.

My Neu packs were always miraculously balanced, while I know my TrueRC packs needed balancing frequently. But honestly, for 1/2 the price of a Neu pack (a cheap enerland at that) I can deal with it. My 2yo TrueRC 4S pack is still going strong. We'll see how these zippies hold up :)

Thanks for the data. I'm running 3000 and 4300 2s Zippy-K 20C packs and I'm pretty pleased. It's too bad they discontinued the 2s 4150 Zippy-R packs. Hobbycity seems to be stepping away from higher capacity (>3000mah) 2s for some reason which is too bad. :(

Here's a graph of my TrueRC 10C 4S 5Ah pack. This pack suffered a puffing tho as the MM lvc seems to be about useless. IDK how much the puffing effected the pack, but I don't think too much. Clearly the pack doesn't hold V as well, and tended to get hot under the same load.
Lastly my TRC 10C 4S 8AH pack from when it was about a year old. In my REvo this time. Holds V well, but the C is much lower than the Zippy above. I would not try a 200A load on my TRC. Still love this pack tho.

Its where they are from. The H's are high end China packs, the K's are Korean iirc and are aka Loong Max batts. R's are korean too. The other Zippies are cheap budget chinese packs.
H's and K's are good, maybe R's too but IDK.

Thats actually not to bad for 10C cells being pushed to over 20C.
I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

No man, the TRCs are great, but you do need a big mah pack to get good performance out of it. The frickin 8AH pack is 800g+ tho, great for bashing, not so great for racing.
I raced with the 10C 5AH until the Zips came in. It did do well enough, but the pack gets too hot, 120F or so by the end.
They have some 15C 5AH packs in now. In 5S with this 2.5D is should be ok. The price is $142. Not quite the deal the zips are, but then again you don't have to get them from Hong Kong.
