Best ESC for E Revo

Looking for a good ESC for a MT like the E Revo. I am running a Tekno Neu 1.5d, 2 2s 8k MA packs in series, 22/58 gearing. I am running a MM now with a cooling fan and the CC BEC but it continues to thermal with hard running. Was looking at some of the MGM's but not sure which would be the best for my application. The 1.5d is a bit hot at 2700 kv, but certainly will work. I'd go with any ESC capable of at least 120-150A and 5s-6s (I like a little headroom on the ESC voltage rating). For the MGMs, that means the 16024, 22418 (a little overkill IMO), or the 16018 (perfect IMO). Or, the MMM.

I had a MMM paid for through Tekno and recently canceled it. I am looking for something different than the MMM. I am wondering if I up my spur I will not thermal as much. Currently running 22/58.

In your opinion is it better than the MMM money aside? Also how programmable is it? I am use to the MM plug and play. I am just looking for something that will handle the power good and not thermal. As soon as I start having fun with my E Revo is thermals it seems.

Gearing down will help to be sure, but you're asking a lot from such a small ESC like the MM. The more you gear down (to a point), the better the ESC temps will be, but then you'll lose too much top speed. Can't hurt to try that first though - a spur is a whole lot cheaper than an ESC!

Lowering gearing should help. How hot is the motor getting?

I've never personally run an MGM to be honest. Although, from all the posts I've read, it works well provided you have the latest firmware and you can get my the whole programming PITA. Someone with more MGM experience will have to offer advice, but that model should be perfect. Good for up to 6s and 160A is perfect for your setup. The MMM will probably still have the edge when it comes to programmability though.

Thanks guys. I realize lowering gearing will create cooler temps. But as you say Brian you suffer on the top end. I am really happy with the performance just as it is on 4s. Temps on motor will range from 140-160 at the most. Packs are generally around 120-125. ESC thermals often so I am guessing it is in excess of 215.

Brian I just looked at the MGM site and see they offer firmware updates on the controllers. I also see it is programmable by radio and PC. I am just a basher so my settings are not as crucial as some racers may need.

I would be interesting in hearing from people who run these and there opinions on them. I also do not see myself ever running more than 4s.

the motor you are running pulls a lot of amps and this causes heat...MGM controllers hardware wise are excellent and the software has gotten better almost as easy as a CC, like Brian I am very anti fan, IMO if the ESC is desgned right it shouldnt need a fan and with a fan all you are doing is cooling off the case. The interior of the component stays hot....heat is being generated in the center and goes outward and if the tempreture is higher that is trying to leave it will keep the cooler air from going any further.

I sent Mike a email asking his opinion as well and what he would run if it was his. I am leaning towards the "overkill" one 22418. Would rather have a little more headroom than not enough.

I used to run an MM/1515 1.5d/f combo in my 1/8 truggy. Never had a problem. I now use the mmmV2 (it's still alive), but I don't see that it offers a huge advantage over the MM. I had the holes in my case and a fan on my MM. No failures for almost a full year of twice-a-week racing. During the indoor season, I ran without fan for 5-minute races and never thermalled.

I hear about these holes in the case. Could you explain or better yet provide a picture? Thanks
