Number one reason why I won't buy Losi.

It is interesting that it is going to be using motor braking.

Why on earth is the motor by itself 180 bucks (even if it's 4 poles, it's still gotta have something significant going on in there- Medusas are only about 120 IIRC for the 60mm versions and they're great motors!)? I wonder what diameter this "720 size" motor is (hopefully that nomenclature is not just a marketing scheme, and really denotes a larger-than-540 diameter size). If it's the same diameter as a Dewalt 700 motor....that'd be SICKENING torque.

In fact, that size motor would probably be ideal for these conversions; far less stress on the motor with such a large potential rotor.

On rc groups, in the Neu motors section, there is a thread where someone refers to a 19 series neu as a 720. I'll see if i can find it. If true, WOW!!! the torque.

found it http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=900834

Work because i gotta, play because i wanna

People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

This kit looks cool. I just picked up a losi 8 kit roller that is super clean. I was going to use a rcp motor mount and make the rest myself, but the losi setup looks too nice to pass up...

I will run a hacker and a MM in mine, alot cheaper than the losi setup. Nice to see more stuff available in the larger scale brushless dept.

Holy CRAP! While I think this is going to be a sickening amount of torque, I think it'll be good for conversions and monster trucks. Less strain on the motor possibly. With that, maybe this setup will run nice and cool with no problems at all while still pushing buggies to 40-45mph easily?

So let's recap what we supposedly know about this motor; 19 series sized, 4 poles, and low kv. The description "torque monster" comes to mind....

The motor diameter has me confused as well... We need some clarification for sure. For a race buggy a 540 diameter (36mm) is plenty. A 720 would be what, 45mm? That's way too much weight for a buggy.

I dont know this for sure but I suspect the 720 motor means its 72mm long like a Feigao XL motor. Its probably 36mm diameterx 72mm long.

Just a guess, but it makes sense in my easilly confused brain.

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

They got them listed as 670 size motors on Losi now. The motor is 66.8mm long

My guess is that jhautz is correct. It isn't going to be a 45mm can cause that is huge.

ffactory - There was a diagram posted somewhere on the forum that shows exactly what you said. Using those 4 mounting tabs, it mounts straight to a another mount on the chassis. As long as those tabs on the ESC are metal, it should be a very durable and secure way of mounting the ESC.

EDIT: I didn't find the post, but here is the exploded view of how the ESC is mounted:

That a very clever design of how the gear mesh is adjusted too. I actually like that better because you can loosen only one screw instead of loosening two in a very awkward position.

While looking there, I also found the body for the "E-8ight":

Although not much info on it...

You have been a busy boy , thanks for those links
Surely the mounting tabs are metal and that motor mount is brilliant , only needing one screw from the top to adjust mesh .
It's a pain in the ass adjusting mesh in the X2 with the RCM mount , i have to remove the whole radio tray and then my hex wrench still doesn't fit to get to the bottom screw . I have to use on of those cheap L shaped hex wrenches that come in the car kits.
I think this was in the planning for a long time from Losi , very impressed

I think it's a 45mm dia. motor. Else why should the motor mount be angled upwards ? Also this way, it can survive a setup with lower rpm & higher gear ratio. What do u think ?

This is one big step towards making 8th scale electric vehicles common.

Joe Ling
