Also, check all of your connectors, battery to esc, and motor to esc. If you have a bad connection somewhere it will cause more resistance, heating everything up in the process...

Get a temp gun, it may not be as hot as you think. And as Linc said a bigger spur helps. I run 48t in my Muggy.

The motor and gearing sound fine to me(I run a nearly identical setup in my truggy) - only 38mph or so on 5s isn't asking for too much. I would look elswhere as the pimp suggested(solder joints, etc.). The fact that the fan on the mmm comes on after a very short period of time with no load indicates to me that something is amiss somewhere. Others are running for 15 minutes with the fan never coming on.

Also - the proline tires will help - the muggy tires are large, heavy meats and suck up a lot of power. You could easily lose a pound of rotating mass, which will feel like 2 pounds to the motor and controller in terms of their work load. :)

I just checked every thing. All seems well. No soder joints or deans got "hot" ??

I just got back in from a late night test and well lets just say i forgot to loctie the grub on my pinion. LOL

I have the punch control set up to 60% i think and she seems driveable now. But i only got a couple of min. But nothing was hot in the couple of min. LOL

More testing tomorrow.(not 15min tomorrow, 8hrs from now. LOL)

It is the 48t spur for the Losi 8ight-T, it may take some filing around the chassis opening to fit in the stock chassis (I have Innovative-RC chassis designed to use 48t spur).

And I run 40 series bowties, which are smaller and lighter than the stock wheels/tires.

Ok tested this mourning. Still getting hot, esc not so much. Motor is still hot darn hot after about 7min.

No go on the wheels, they were the 23mm wheels. errrrrrrr

Took wheels off and weighted them.

rims and tires. 4 lbs LOL wow!!!!!!!!

I use the 23mm wheels (need hubs as muggy has 20mm stock).

I have one set of 40 series bowties that weighs about 9 oz each and another set about 10 oz each (different wheels). My stock muggy tires/wheels weigh about 12 oz each.

too much heat often comes from a under rated li-po, and you can fix it without buying a new battery, and if you keep doing what you've been doing with it, then you probably won't need a better battery. The new wheels and tires are going to help a ton, they're the same kind i have, but you'll also want a better spur gear. 48T 50T

with a monster like the muggy I think that you should consider at least a 6S pack for your next battery, but not a maxamps, lincpimp said he's had 12 different maxamps batteries and he's had to send them all back, he recommended for me to go with anything that uses enerland cells, I think you should too, he said that any flightpower, neuenergy, thunderpower, polyquest, or poly rc pack will be exceptional, they use enerland cells.
