Boat controller in a truck? -

Is it possible to run a Castle Hydra esc on a flm savage? or is it just impossible to cool it? I would be willing to make a water cooling system if it would work. Of course by the time i buy esc, small water pump, and the other components of a water system i might could just buy an MGM .
If you use an appropriately sized Hydra ESC heat shouldn't be an issue. And I would say no to water cooling as it's just one more thing to go wrong.
With the boat ESCs they typically don't have the same braking characteristics as true car ESCs. This almost makes mechanical brakes a necessity, unless the Hydra's brakes are unlike those of a typical boat ESC.

I used the Hydra 120 and it was a big mistake of purchasing it... Fried it on the first run and things were setup perfectly. I have no idea what went wrong...
Imho, the answer to the question is in the question: "Boat controller". CF sent me the BK marine controller to replace the car one which his junk XLT motor burned up and, of coarse, I ebayed it to try and get some of the $650.00 I wasted dealing with him back. If the Hydra's were designed to work properly in 1/8th scale conversions Castle would have rebadged them, intalled air cooled heat sinks and called them Terra 120's and 240's instead of going through all the trouble and failures with the MMM. There again, just my opinion.
I would not use a boat control for any land based rc vehicle, right now mike says the bad boy control to have is the mgm 160.24 which is rock solid and reliable on 6s...but could use a reverse delay.
if you want to try an alternative controller try the CC Hv110 works well..the only things to consider is they have a soft start feature which is a safety feature for planes, have no reverse or motor braking

Speaking of that would it work well in a Savage and how soft is the soft start?
The soft start on the HV-110 is good enough that it can start the motor perfectly in a Savage every time. My Savage:
-extended FLM nitro chassis
-custom center diff setup with mechanical brakes
-Proline Crimefighter MTs
-Feigao 12XL
-9s1p A123
-12/46 gearing (I think)
Top speed is about 50mph, and the HV-110 handles it no problem. After maybe 6mins (not a full run) the HV-110 temp'd at about 115 deg. F, the motor 160, and the batteries 100. This truck is pushing some HUGE power for those batteries, too.
